Title: New Terry Adcox Custom Seat
Post by: t2sfd on April 04, 2012, 06:53:12 PM
About two weeks ago I found a custom seat on Ebay for the Concours 14 from a Kawasaki dealer in Tullahoma, Tennessee. The guys name is Terry Adcox. The seat looked great, with the wings and advertised reduced slope so I called him up, talked to him and ordered the seat. The seat was advertised on Ebay with drivers seat measurements of 14 1/2" from gas tank to back of drivers seat and 16 1/2" wide. When the seat arrived it looked great, excellent craftsmanship, and it was really supportive and comfortable.

After riding it a few days I called Terry up and asked him to make a few changes. The seat itself had me sitting back further than I like. (I also have Murph's risers and Phil's wedges). I asked him if he could move the seating area up along with the wings so that the measurement from the tank to the back of the drivers seat is 12 1/2". I made a template to send back with the seat. Terry was great to deal with. Naturally there was an extra charge to move the seating section up and recover, but it was well worth it.

Terry explained to me that he has made a lot of seats for the KLX over the years and knew from talking to various Concours riders that there was a market for custom seats so he's starting to branch out into the Concours seats.

Well the revised seat arrived today and it's perfect. I haven't put many miles on it yet, but I plan on going for a nice long ride Saturday so I'll re-post and let everyone know how it works out.

This was the seat I purchased on Ebay.  Item number: 190647072320

Wonder how long it will last. Looks like a lot of puckering going on there.

I saw that seat and was tempted also but like the previous post, I was concerned about the bucket part not looking real smooth, but it does look comfortable. Let us know the results after your ride.

They're actually expansion joints, I had them designed into the seat so that it reduces the stress when my weight is positioned on the seat. When I'm sitting on it, those "puckering" areas smooth right out. Just as any other properly designed engineered system you have to account for temperature and pressure variations from forces acting upon the area. These so called "puckering" areas allow the seat to conform to my buttocks area without distorting or stretching the material over time.

There's been numerous studies done on military fighter aircraft seats that are designed in the same fashion.

I'll let you know how it works out.

How much do you weigh, if you don't mind my asking? I'm just a little fart, so it may be a lot different for me.
