Title: For those who have removed the tip of a TBR exhaust
Post by: SVonhof on March 16, 2012, 11:43:05 AM
I am going to order a P1  Power Tip for mine and was wondering if I should also get the replacement screws. I don't know how likely they are to strip or come close to stripping out and don't want to get stuck having to place another order.

I mainly wonder about it since they are aluminum, or maybe just the replacement ones are aluminum? Not sure.

I have a Power Tip installed and see no need to order replacement screws.  Just be careful when inserting the star tip in the screw.  Be sure it's fully seated and that you apply enough pressure to insure that it stays seated when loosening and tightening the screws.  At 15,000 miles I bought replacement fiberglass matting for the muffler and took it apart to replace the old with the new.  I discovered that the fiberglass matting showed no degradation so I just put it back together as it was and put the replacement on the shelf to be installed at what will probably be a much later date.  In my opinion the Power Tip is a very good option as it will still allow the sounds we all consider to be a pleasant melody but at a much reduced decibel rating.  Whatever the loss of power amount to will never be noticed by the rider.  It will require a sensitive dynomometer to discern a difference.  The general, non-riding public will not be offended by the sound after the Power Tip is installed as many are without it.

If you care to see some varied opinions relating to this subject posted by members of the Concours Owners Group forum, check this thread:  http://forum.cog-online.org/index.php/topic,32800.0.html (http://forum.cog-online.org/index.php/topic,32800.0.html)  The fourth reply was my first offering and it really opened a can of worms.  The originator of the thread took great offense and thus began a session of verbal jousting.  In the final analysis, it appears that he had entered a gun fight armed with a rock.

Thanks for the insight Bud.

I have ordered the power tip and no screws. I will be careful when removing and re-installing them as you mention.

For me, if I can get the exhaust slightly less noisy, it will be better appreciated by my wife as I woke her up when leaving for work the one time I was able to ride in to work since installing it.

When you have installed the Power Tip I suggest you post your opinion of the difference so that others may have an idea of its effectiveness.  Here's a link to a YouTube video demonstrating the installation of the Power Tip:  Jazz Motorsports - Two Brothers Power Tip Install Video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mrOXWKmpHY4#ws)
