'08 glovebox removed and replaced with '10 cover.

I split a piece of vacuum hose to use on the bottom edge of the cover as the trim spec'ed for the '10 was to thick.

I made the bracket that's marked with the x. I brazed two nuts on the underside for the cover bolts.

I assume you did away with your glove box so that the tank bag would have a better fit?

Yes. Right after I fried my cell phone in the box.

I am looking at doing this mod to use the new risers recently posted, gPink was very helpful in posting photos.  Still on the fence.

I still don't see the need for this mod. A tank bag works fine with the glove box in place. You aren't required to put phones or other electronic equipment in it, and there are plenty of things you can use it for. Just ,my opinion.

This would be MY reason but the cost vs result makes it hard to justify:

I liked the old box on my 08. It was perfect for EZ-PASS.

Absolutely!  cellphone and EZPASS are my 2 biggest customers for that space.  I still don't understand what the hoopla was all about.  The only "improvement" with the new glovebox is that it is lockable.  Even then, given all the complaints about the KiPASS conking out, I'm not so sure folks would want more solenoid operated locks that might fail.

I actually prefer the wide shallow cavity more than a deep narrow one.  The glovebox on my Triumph Sprint ST was similar to the new C14's, and I never bothered to put anything in it.

Yeah that would be the only possible reason I could think of to remove the glovebox.

Thanks for posting.  As you know, I went the other way adding a top compartment to my '10, and I could not live without it now.  I keep a rag, spray bottle of water, reading glasses and a couple of other odds and ends in mine.

So i really want to put the AST pullback risers on my new to me 08 Concours 14. My other bike is a custom Yamaha Roadstar bagger with mini apes and I've gotten used to being a bit more comfortable on longer stretches. I live in New Orleans and take a trip up to the smokey mountains every year so highway pegs are a must also.

I was wondering if anyone who has a 2010 and up c14 would be interested in trading me their flat panel cover with hardware and brackets for my glove box with brackets and hardware. Also, if anyone has a wrecked c14 with the flat panel that they want to sell i would be interested in buying it from you.

Also if anyone has done this mod before please chime in and let me know exactly what i need to do and parts i will need.

Thanks a bunch,

Grant

Grant, the easy part is the box/panel swap. The hard part will be dealing with AST. I
would have the risers in hand before I spent money on Kaw parts.

Good luck with those risers...you'll need it.

Heck I'd be happy if they made use of all the empty spots on the dash. Put the left side glove box, the tank box, and put a glove box on the huge empty spot on the right of the dash too!

is the customer service still really bad with ast? I know the guy was having some issues but i thought it had been resolved and he was back to business?

You should hate it, my 08 was bad till I brought it to a dealer for the free recall, the replacement worked great. When I bought a new 2012, I bought all the parts on-line for an 08 (almost $200) and installed on the 2012, been working great for over 40k mi now.

I've done that upgrade and swap. I ordered the parts from KAWI. you need the gasket as well unless you want to cut and trim the Gen 1 Gasket. you will also need to fabricate a small bracket to screw the Gen 2 piece.
looks stock when you are done and gives you a more upright riding position.

ok, so the bracket needs to be made for the 2 bolts closest to the rider right? The one bolt in the front on the frame is in the same location I assume.

You can have the stock 2012 plastic plate and gasket I took off my bike when I installed the glove box from the 08, did it when new, just pay for shipping!

So an update on Ryan @ AST. I was talking to him on the online help chat option and then emailed him and he called me right back.

He said he had some issues with his suppliers, a couple actually going out of business, but they have been replaced.  He said he got a big shipment in yesterday.  He was out of the pullback risers until the end of this month or maybe the beginning of next month. He did have the regular 2" risers  and the pullback adapter plates which is almost the same as the one piece pullback riser but for me a little bit better because it gives you a slightly taller lift than the one piece setup.

So i paid through PayPal and the items are supposed to be shipped out tomorrow morning. I will update this thread when i receive the risers and flat panel with pictures and descriptions of  the modifications done and weather i received the risers and hardware in a timely manner.  Thanks for everyone's help so far.

Grant

Thanks gPink, that's exactly what I needed. I will be doing this mod within the next 2 weeks to make room for the pullback risers. Did you mod your 08 bracket or was that the bracket from the 2010?

I fabbed a new bracket and brazed captive nuts on the underside. 2nd pic shows it slipped under the stock bracket.  If you buy the 2nd gen bracket I think there is bit of grinding on it that needs done, not sure.

got it, well I am getting the second gen bracket so we shall see. I don't mind a little grinding, I just don't have any welding equip. but if I need to drill new holes I will probably use the windshield grommets like the ones i had on my R1 windshield to secure the bolts down.

So my install is complete. 2nd Gen cover on my 2008 C14. For me, the easiest way to do this conversion is to use the 2nd Gen bracket on the 08 or 09 bike. The side panels from the 1st Gen don't line up with the 2nd Gen bracket, I just used a zip tie on each side and it fit perfectly. The 2 mounting bolts to mount the 2nd Gen bracket on the 1st Gen bike and the 3 bolts needed to mount the panel fit perfectly.

I also mounted a set of AST risers & a set of their pullback riser adapters. I am extremely happy with the build quality from AST and they sent the items to me promptly without a hitch. Once I got Ryan on the help chat option on his website the transaction was very smooth from that point on.

Along with my Cee Bailey's Ultra Tour windshield I couldn't be happier! Now if I could just move these rear sets forward a bit that would be fantastic!!!  :)

Some pics below! A huge thanks to Steve (whatcom) for basically giving me the bracket and top panel and for the advice he gave me to help with the install.
