Title: Radar detector light
Post by: Ranger on May 19, 2011, 02:24:46 PM
Having recently purchased a new escort radar detector I am wanting to add something that will alert me easier. I know about the wireless earpiece that is available for about $99. There is also a helmet light that goes with the earpiece for more $$ that is currently "unavailable." What I really want is just an additional warning light (only) that I might place on the top edge of my windscreen or maybe in my helmet. Is there a wireless (light only) available for the helmet, without needing the earpiece? Right now, other than the main unit itself, I have a warning signal on the cigarette lighter type plug that is mounted near my dash but not quite in my line of vision unless I look down. Is there a way for a multi plug to be utilized that another signal light could be attached to that I could mount somewhere in my line of vision? Trying to speed safely here.  ;)

Here's one that you can get from Aerostitch, I'm sure it's available from other vendors.

I've found it's too easy to miss visual alerts when you've on the gas and really enjoying the road or perhaps distracted by the scenery. I tried all kinds of wired ear plugs, helmet speakers etc. I found being wired up to the bike was a major PIA. I really like an audible alert so I finally broke down and purchased and installed a radar screamer, it works very well, it's also available from Aerostitch.

This thing is very loud it has 2 volume settings low and high, you can also use the mute button on your detector to quite it down when needed.

Here's the one I used for my 8500 on the ST... real bright with your volume on the RD adjust high... volume control used for brightness.

I just returned from a friends house, he just received and installed an external  speaker from Escort on his BMW along with an Escort detector. It's only 25.00 which is much less than the Radar Screamer. This thing is loud it will get your attention right now. Only downside is it's not waterproof, but you could probably install it where it would be shielded from the elements. The audible alert will get your attention right now there is no possibility of overlooking the sound. I find visual alerts to be damn near worthless.

I bought this helmet light from legalspeeding and it works great, you mount the sending unit to your radar detector and it sends a wireless signal to the small unit mounted inside on your helmet. It's a small LED light on your helmet that is great for visual alerts when your radar detector starts going off...
