For guys like me who routinely have to churn out lots of interstate, and like 1,000 mile days, how have you modified your C14 for maximum touring comfort? Moreover, can you post pictures as well?
Lastly, how much have your modifications improved the C14's touring capabilities vs. stock?

I started off with some handlebar risers and wedges from Murph's Kits. Then had a custom saddle made by Baldwin Motorbike saddles. Also recently added a Givi E55 top case for extra storage. Rear lowering foot peg brackets as well.

Cee Bailey's windshield, Heli risers, Corbin seat with a Airhawk R Cruiser Seating System. The Airhawk was recommended to me by JamminJere and it makes a huge difference on long mileage days. If your butt is sore or numb after riding, I think you may like this addition.

Cee Bailey Ultra Tour, grip puppies, tank bag was a must, go cruise worked great across the flat roads of Texas. I have broken in the factory seat or just gotten used to it, it is not a problem but working on my own custom seat job.

The number one mod for long distance for me is the handle bars. Second for me is the back rest. With the handle bar mod I can sit back enough to get lumbar support from the back rest. Those 2 mods go hand and hand with the highway pegs. The highway pegs are very ugly but very comfy on long rides. I only mount them when I am touring. Not sure how much the Spencer seat mod helps since I only had the stock seat for about 500 miles before I had the mod done and cannot remember what the stock feels like. Last but not least is the cruise control. I actually have both the Rostra electronic and a quick Vista Cruise throttle lock. Out on the open road the Rostra is a MUST for long days. But even in light traffic the ability to quickly lock the throttle and stretch my right arm is crucial for long days.

The risers are a combo of Motorcycle Larry's, 2" risers and my own additional home made pull back blocks. Most of the time in traffic I do not use cruise control. But for quick stretch my arm its just much easier to thumb on the Vista Cruise, stretch for a second and hand back on the bar and thumb off the Vista Cruise. I had the Vista Cruise first and was just simpler to leave it on after installing the Rostra. My intention was to remove it but have found myself still using it on occasion.

Mine has a set of bar risers, BMW sport grips, Buell pegs (lower than stock with more cornering clearance than stock), a CalSci 6+ windshield and an MRA visor on top of that (total windshield height is about 9" higher than a stock '08 C-14), a Corbin saddle and Airhawk cushions. I cannot ride the bike for more than about 45 minutes with the Corbin alone but with the Airhawk I can go 50 hours continuous (not a typo- fifty hours) without anything specific hurting. http://www.zggtr.org/index.php?topic=2286.0 (http://www.zggtr.org/index.php?topic=2286.0) The biggest single change in comfort was the saddle- I can go about 3 hours on a stock seat, and maybe 4-5 hours on a Russell Day- Long before pain sets in. The Airhawk simply eliminates high pressure points and allows open- ended riding, at least for me, and the Corbin is the perfect bed for the Airhawk to sit on.
A Rostra CC works well on the C-14 but not as well as most factory autos, and it does not work as well as the factory CC on BMW's that I have ridden. Still, the Rostra will work more than well enough to make it very useful when grinding out a lot of highway miles. It works best at highway speeds as there is some load on the bike and that tends to buffer the changes in throttle. It will also work on secondary roads but it can be a little bit 'sharp' and move the throttle too much ending up with the bike's speed porpoising up and down quite a bit.

Agreed, the Air Hawk is a great option. I use two different models, on aftermarket seats, on 5 bikes. They and my heated liner, are the best aftermarket items, I've invested in.

Agreed.. My Airhawk works well on top of the sargent.. but didn't do as well on a stock C14 saddle... and if you are in the market for the Airhawk.. stay away from the cheaper Airhawk 2 and go with the new revised Airhawk R (R for RELIEF) or the original as a second choice..

Great information, thank you. This is the first I've read how the Rosta works compared to the factory unit I am used to. Understandable, but I suppose to be expected that it does not work as well.
I just want to be comfortable. After raising the bars/lowering the pegs, etc., my K1300GT was a pretty decent long distance bike. I think my C14 should be comperable to it, maybe a touch less fairing than my old K13, but the Ultra Tour and hand winglets should help.

FWIW, the prior post was an attempt at humor. I don't have a Harley. But that seems to be the direction most of the farkles mentioned are aimed at. When you all start adding tassels I'll be fully convinced.
Oh, I like a bit of chrome and/or stainless okay, but normally do not add it to my vehicles for show.

I forgot to add my fav farkle, baker hand wings. Out here in the PNW they is almost a necessity, combined with heated grips I wear my summer gloves until it's in the mid 30s if it's raining out, if it's dry out I've ridden in the 20s with the summer gloves on.

Yup! The day they make a Harley with 150hp that weighs under 700lbs, can carve the corners like a sport bike I'm in. Until then I will farkle the C14 for 800 mile days and get out and ride.

How did you lower the bars?
Basically I cut a 1 inch chunk out of the handle bar brackets and then welded them back together.

I do like farkling and comfort creatures, but I agree with Clyde that there is a purpose for this bike and there are better bikes for mile munching in complete comfort. I haven't found a bike with better balance between comfort AND sport, though. That said, my best technique to accomplish many miles a day is simply taking 15-30 minutes at each fuel stop to stretch the legs and recover my ability to focus in what I'm doing. Since I am an immigrant here in Germany, come from far away, and like visiting home as often as possible, I know for a fact that there is no seat in the world comfortable enough for more than 4-8 hours in a row. Cattle, business or first class seats don't make a difference. What matters is the ability to move around, and on a motorcycle that's not going to happen (or it shouldn't) as long as you're driving.

We're not that bad... If you can send a PM to him via your wife to come back that would be great. I asked him to add some more 'conversation' to what he was posting as they were very short on detail.
Of course, you know, if he does come back, your wife is on the hook to do the translation if we can't get a member to do it. Hope she likes the C14.

I find the Corbin seat to be very hard. Great support but still hard. It is also very "form-fitting" but my butt is a little different than the form they used. Had a Corbin on my ST1100 and it was a lot flatter. I don't like this one as much. Still a lot better than stock, I don't slide forward as bad.

Lots you can do if you are an Iron Butt rider and want to you a C-14:
1. Rich's seat first thing (out of Kingston Washington - you will never regret a true custom fit seat)
2. Handle bar risers if you are over 5'10"
3. Peg lowering kit
4. Additional lights
5. Flashing break light
6. Raise the windshield with a good quality replacement (I went Givi)
7. Take out the secondard butterfly valves!!!!!!!!!!!
8. Add a Power Commander V with two maps (1 economy, 1 power). The guys from Fuel Moto can hook you up with that.
9. Add a switch so you can change maps on the fly
10. Area P exhaust
11. Heated grips
12. Throttle lock
13. A plug-in for your electric vest
14. Good quality GPS (doesn't have to be all-weather as a sandwich bag and elastic will keep it safe).
15. Lots of gasoline and tires
16. A desire to see new country very quickly....................

I am organized so that all gl'accessori see in the picture, and are not of my building, as, saddle, boots, mittens, backpack, hard luggage, heated to around 12 volts, driver and passenger footpegs lowered, external lights on the triptych second STOP, courtesy lights in the triptych,

Should have painted that bike to match the helmet!! Hi-Viz yellow on the bike would be handy on long distance touring.

But what about aux fuel tanks! I have one from my former gl1800. Will mount it to the passenger seat or the rear rack. However looking advice on whether to drill a hole underside of the tank or the plate that holds the tanks electronics, tubing etc.
Looking forv advice.

OK, some info and pics. I have the 2 piece Corbin seat, slip on 2 Bros "black series" pipe, Rigid Industries Dually 2s driving lights, and the brand new not yet released Cal Sci windshield. You will see that it is considerably wider than the previous shields, 4-6 wider than OEM, RAM mounts as well as a Tech mount. I have an aux fuel tank that for the pics I placed on the rear rack, but have not yet hard mounted it to the bike...thats an upcoming project.
The driving lights are fantastic, half the price of the Clearwater lights, very bright and cast a long beam.

I did install a TM and GIVI E55 for major luggage.

OK, some info and pics. I have the 2 piece Corbin seat, slip on 2 Bros "black series" pipe, Rigid Industries Dually 2s driving lights, and the brand new not yet released Cal Sci windshield. You will see that it is considerably wider than the previous shields, 4-6 wider than OEM, RAM mounts as well as a Tech mount. I have an aux fuel tank that for the pics I placed on the rear rack, but have not yet hard mounted it to the bike...thats an upcoming project.
The driving lights are fantastic, half the price of the Clearwater lights, very bright and cast a long beam.

How'd you get on that "not yet released" list? Is the window up or down in that top pic?

The pic of the shield is in the up position. It is the standard large w/s for 2010 models and newer. The width is what makes this the "new" model.
I was travelng back from palm springs and decided to drop by calsci office to p/u a shield. They offered me the new wider version, so i took it.
I was told the new version is due to be released on their website in a matter of weeks.
So far i like the shield.
