Title: Heated grips/seat circuit suggestions?
Post by: GMan on February 02, 2012, 04:08:20 PM
I'm installing heated grips and seat on my 09 and want to put them on a switched circuit. I'm hoping some of you with more experience than me (which is pretty much everyone) could recommend one. I've searched for this topic but have come up empty.  Thanks in advance.

I haven't done it on this bike but on my Gold Wing I ran a relay from the accessory terminal on the fuse box and connected them up to the relay.

I just installed heated grips. There is switched accessory power available already provided in the stock wire harness. The connectors are the bullet type located in the large black rubber boot located under the left black fairing panel. Very easy to access and put there for just this sort of thing. Sorry that I don't have pictures.

Make sure you add a variable controller.  Without it, your butt will be on FIRE (I speak from experience).  HIGHLY recommend the Sargent controller.

Murphskits makes a switched power bus just for this purpose. It was designed for the C-10 though. I have one waiting to be installed on my '09. Maybe first of next week. I think it was $62. It is going on along with grip heaters, Rostra CC, PCV, full exhaust and a flyectomy.

I'd run a dedicated fuse protected relay circuit directly to the battery and then, as others have suggested, use the switched accessory circuit to turn the relay on and off.

Here's some info to help with the front accessory leads, scroll to the bottom for the front leads.

I put both heated grips and a heated seat on my 08.  I used the leads in the front as mentioned and the leads in the tail.  We measured the draw on the system and it handled both on full with no issue.
