Title: 15000 mile service cost
Post by: So Cal Joe on January 17, 2012, 07:56:29 PM
I was at a dealer today (not my usual dealer) looking around, I asked service dept about the price of the 15,000 miles service, They said $489 + parts. is that about in the ball park? I can do most of it  myself like oil & filter, air filter, and a few other things to save a few dollars. Probably might just have them do the valves and plugs while they are in there.

FWIW, A shop in San Diego quoted me around $700.

$489 plus parts and tax is the rough quote i got here in VA also.  I spent that money on outfitting my shop instead and doing it myself.

I would say that is a good quote for Kaleeforniyah.

You could also check if you have a leaking valve cover so that a big chunk of that labor could be written off by warranty work.  I love my GTPP!  ;D

I was looking for a leaky valve cover but no dice.  :(  With my luck it will start leaking after I pay for the valve adjustment!! I have owned the bike for 14 months so I guess with almost 15,000 miles on it now it's time to get it done. Just put a PR3 on the rear, had a Bridgestown 023 got 7500 miles from it, thought I would get more but it was down to the wear bars so I changed it, hope to get 10,000 from the PR3.

Hey Roadie, where in VA was your shop?  The shop that I just talked to in Manassas quoted me almost $800!

Like many have stated here, 15,000 mile might be over rated (valve and plugs).  I like to do it too at 15,000, but I have too many farkles and hobbies to spend my money on.

Ya'll need to specify if you are including the valve check at 15,000.  From what I have read in the past you are not going to get a full service including valve check for under $500 unless they are not including things like gaskets and other misc parts.  I just had what I would consider a full service except the oil change (I do them all myself).  This is the first time I have EVER had a routine service done on a bike.  Most bikes I don't keep long enough to do a valve check, and back in the day (30 years ago) I did the valves myself.

My service today was just a hair under $600.  It included valve check (none needed adjusting) new spark plugs, new air filter, throttle body synch and of course the miscellaneous gaskets and parts requited.  I thought it was a fair price even though I hated to have to pay it.  I'll say this too, the bike came back immaculate and all my farkles still worked (wiring for GPS, Radar detector, Powerlet for heated gear, air horn).  I really expected them to screw something up because they had to take all the tupperwear off.

14.2K  The dealer replaced the valve cover gasket and cam position sensor under warranty.  In Turn a few other services were performed as part of the P.M.  A valve adjustment was performed. A few shims on two exhaust valves exchanged. Antifreeze changed, four new plugs, air filter and two new bulbs.  All for $480.00 I'm pleased with the results.

My local dealership quoted me $800 plus parts which I thought was excessive.

I called an independent shop that have a great rep and they quoted me $6-700 total but he was also quick to say that I shouldn't waste my money since I'll be selling/trading soon. I'm not sure what to make of that...

I would think that having the valve check done would make it easier to get my asking price?

Having the valve check done is a bargaining chip for the seller, but you have to figure out if the expense is worth the possible reward.  Maybe you have some warranty work (leaky valve cover possibly... cough cough!) and the dealer would cut you a decent break on the labor.  I did the leaky valve cover and only came out of pocket right around $200 (2.5 or 3 extra hours of labor plus parts).  And that included spark plugs.  I forgot to ask for a TB sync but that is something that I will remember for next time.

Temecula motor sports quoted me $485 + parts for the 15,000 service. He said about $600 total. I want to check Beaumont motor sports, where I had my tire pressure sensor replaced, and see what their cost is. If it's near the same I will go to Beaumont, they have a great service manager there and he has always treated me right. I'm at 13,600 miles now and in May I'm taking off on about a 10 day ride so I guess the serice will happen soon.

I bet if you have the service manager look hard enough he will see what you want him to see.   ;D

[Jedi mind trick hand wave] This is the oil leak you are looking for.

Contact my friends over at Ultimate
the contact info can be found here:

or here:

Use the phone number, and speak directly with the head of the service department...do not speak with the "underlings", as they don't have a clue....
I believe they were under $500 for the valve service, but as I did my own, it wasn't for sure.
I will say they have good tech's, and all of my warrenty repairs were completed rapidly, and efficiently, with absolutly no hassles.

Another one to look at is Village Motorsports on route 20 going into Orange.  I'm getting ready to take mine in for a valve check again.  Good peeps.

Thanks.  Do you tend to trailer your bike to the shop or have someone follow you, or do you hang out in the area for the day while they work?

If you are hanging out while they do a valve check you better bring a tent.   ;D

I generally have my wife follow me to the shop and then I leave the bike there.
