I will tryi and get photos posted. Anyhow I painted the bags on bike with bed liner spray. So far all good. I can acually use them now with out worry of scratches and no more scuff marks......My advise to anyone who does it is, take your time make sure you really scuff up the plastic and do very light coats at first.. It runs very easy. Had to sand some off and repaint.
I am not promoting any product, I used duplicolor brand spray. Its texture matches the rest of the plastic on the bags.

Do you like it? I like the black mixed with the silverdammit.
IMO the Rustoleum has a more "uniform" appearance. The Duplicolor looks a little blotchy.

I prefer the looks of the color-matched bags, but after years of cuts, scratches and scuffs, the bedliner coating will probably be happening to my C14's bags before too awful long. :thumbs:

I've thought about doing this but as trade happy as I can be I wonder about what kind of hit the trade-in value would take?

Kudo's to you for being creative and preventing more scuffs. The bike is too nice and clean looking for me to think about making the bags all rugged looking on mine though lol. When my time comes that I need paint I think im just gonna repaint them to match.... that or tint some bedliner to match ;)

You could pick up a set of cheap scratched up bags (or even just the outer lids) off ebay or something, then just put your paint matched ones on the shelf for if you ever go to sell...

Liner looks OK in my mind but I am thinking maybe I will just do the front top and back amd leave the sides alone...we will see. Most of the nicks scatchs etc. on my bags are on the front from rocks, top from some clumsy a$$ scuffing them amd back from the same clumsy a$$ not watching when backing it up. LOL

If someone wanted to do this to just the top and forward edge as opposed to the whole cover, you might consider LINE-X bed-liner. They have a neat masking "tape" that has a wire embedded in it and when finished they pull the wire out and it cuts a perfectly sharp edge. I had this done to a pickup bed and the material wrapped over the top edge of the sides with a sharp edge where the material stopped. It would cost a few bucks but I highly recommend the material they use, it's indestructible.

I like it. I am I one of those people who would rather buy a sports car and wreck it driving WFO than let it burn up in a museum. So with the bags protected I use the crap out of them with out worry. I used the duplicolor cause the finish seemed to match the texture of the oem plastic.

Great idea. Used the Dupli-color first and didn't like the shiny finish. Redone with Rustoleum and came out a much better match with the black texture on the bags. Wanted to maintain some of the color so only did the top portion, retaining the side color.

Very nice...that is exactly what I was thinking of doing except doing the front and back right down to the OEM black..I think that would look ok also. Thanks for sharing the photo.

Thanks guys. I use to have the 3M film applied to the tops of the bags then my buddies FJR slung a rock and chipped the paint really bad. This mod really works well to cover up any blemishes all the while looking very stock. Just make sure to rough up the area to be painted with sandpaper then clean it really good with alcohol. Be careful not to over-spray by making quick passes from about 18" away. Post up your results. Thanks again.
