Title: Lower rider footpegs
Post by: B.D.F. on May 17, 2011, 09:08:35 PM
There are lowering kits to lower the height of the factor footpegs but of course they also greatly reduce ground clearance in cornering. There are also at least two other types of footpeg that are lower than stock and maintain at least as much ground clearance as a stock C-14.

From left to right: Murph's pegs, Buell Ulysses pegs and stock C-14 pegs.

The relative difference in height can be seen in these photos, and all were taken from the same place with the camera on a tripod so they show the correct relative heights:

Murph's pegs:

Buell Ulysses pegs:

Stock pegs:

The Buell pegs were fairly inexpensive but had to be modified to use them on a C-14. The pivot hole had to be enlarged and some of the end of the peg (where it bears on the bike's frame) has to be filed or ground off to have the pegs sit level. I don't know if they are still available from Buell stock or not. Murph's pegs are made for a C-14 so of course they fit the bike as purchased.

Having all three, I use Murph's pegs. They work well for me and the wide flat area is pretty comfortable.

I put Buell pegs on my Blackbird and didn't care for the lack of rubber surfacing the OEM pegs provided. There was a "perceived" additional buzz transmitted, which was possibly psychosomatic.  One of the Blackbird forum members created Dave's lowering links, which facilitated utilization of the stock pegs. Anyone seen something similar for a C14?

I put the buell pegs on mine yesterday and will be taking them off today. I have not had any issues with the stock pegs but had the others left over from my zx14 so I figured I would give them a try. To me  it seems like it moves my feet down and back and I think they need to be down and forward some. They are not very comfortable. Plus the rear brake seems  like it would be difficult to adjust, if it will adjust down far enough. I didnt bother with moving it down since I was going to take a test ride to work and then adjust everything if I decided to leave them on.

I got the Buell a while ago and used them for a couple of weeks. My finding was that it put my feet in a wider posiion and I didn't like that. The extra inch outwards bothered me.
I was thinking about getting Murphs but I'm afraid it will be the same feeling?

Have the Buell's on mine - quite happy with them, and damn hard to beat for the $$ in my book

Murph,
Thank you very much for the offer. However, looking at the picture above, it looks like they would put my feet out just about the same distance.

I have the Buell's and I like them....I think?  They came on the bike, and that's all I have ever had on the bike.  I do have the stock pegs, I guess I'll have to go back to stock and see how those ride.
