Title: Difficulties with removing air filter without destroying gasket....
Post by: emjayw on November 01, 2011, 03:53:32 AM
My new-to-me '01 had a very dirty stock filter with a disintegrating gasket.  I couldn't re-use it with the torn gasket so I installed a K&N I had from a previous C-10 with a new gasket supplied by K&N as the first fell off and apart after one install/removal.  Now this new gasket is torn in 2 places as it ripped while removing the K&N for service.  Is there a fix for this really "fiddly" air filter gasket issue?  Or am I just missing something obvious?  No matter how carefully I affix the K&N gasket to the filter it still comes off partially upon removal and sticks up in the airbox in several spots causing it to tear.  Mike in TX

Hey Mike,
Mine did the same thing, but here is a solution. Securely glue the gasket to the filter housing (both surfaces must be clean first). Then after it dries apply a thin coat of grease on the top of the filter gasket. This should make it slide in and out easier.
