Title: 2012 ZX-14 seat
Post by: jjsC6 on October 10, 2011, 06:10:27 PM
Let me be the first to wonder if the 2012 ZX-14 seat is interchangeable with the Concours.  Take a look at it - it has a nice wide support area to the rear of the rider portion - like many of the good aftermarket seats.  Wondering if it will be comfortable and interchange.

I guess I'm not supposed to cut and paste pics, but here is a link where you can look at the seat...

Even if it did fit, what would cover the pillion?

Nothing needs to cover it.

The ZX-14 seat is actually a full length seat with a removeable plastic cover over the back half.

Don't know about the 2012 but, the 2006-2011 ZX14 seat is interchangable.

Don't have pics but, I've got a ZX14 seat I have swapped back and forth on my C14. Works bitchen when your riding your Connie like a sportbike! Also, lowers the seat height a measured 5/8"-3/4".

Anybody notice the exhaust system on the new zx14. They appear to be bigger than the bazooka`s on the Concours.

Why not just get a whole ZX14?

I'm thinking about it, but it deeply saddens me those clowns at Kawi skimped and excluded anti-lock brakes.

I just bought one of the zx14 seats for my 2008.  So far, I like it. It is slightly more firm and close to 1 inch lower. More importantly the shape does not lock a person into place like the stock seat.  The shape of the sides makes it easier to deal with at stoplights.  The shroud the zx14 seat comes with will not fit without removing the rack.  The seat does not fit until the center brackets are switched, btu it takes 30 seconds to remove them.  Otherwise, the seat pans are the same.

How does the seat work for a passenger?  Better or worse than the stock Connie seat.

My wife said the passenger seat was more firm, but never complained.  The seat will allow the passenger to move for and aft much easier than the stock seat will allow.   I'm not sure how firm the zx14 will end up being since this one was a new take-off that had never been used.

I'm still trying to decide whether to buy one or not, and whether to buy a 2011 or 2012.  All I can do is guess, but I"m thinking a 2011 can be bought right now for about $3,000 less than I could get a '12 for in about six months.  I agree with you on the ABS, and I also wish they put tire pressure monitoring on it.

With the ZX14 changes for the '12 I suggest take the splurge over the '11

Steve, I know myself pretty well when it comes to buying vehicles.  There is a reason I've owned 57 four wheel vehicles....I like having the latest stuff.  And while I don't mean to imply that I'm independently wealthy, I am in a position that the extra $3000 or so would not change my lifestyle.  So yes, I'd probably go for the new one.

Let me know if you get a ride on one when they come out.
