Gonna change the shield.......got it narrowed down to a Cee Bailey Ultra Tour Domed or a Cal Sci large. Comments, suggestions or personal experiences to share?
-
I went with the cal sci large. Can't comment on it yet. Will be here tomorrow.
-
This is not exactly what you asked for, but I have both the Cee Bailey ultra and the Cal Sci large, and am presently using the V Stream.
My opinion only, but even though all are good shields, I think the V Stream does a better job. I am 6 feet tall.
-
I have the Cee Bailey Ultra Tour, it does give good wind protection but it moves around a lot at high speed or around other traffic on the freeway. Overall I like it so far and i'm sure all larger shields will move around more than the shorter stock shield. I'm 6 ft. and I do have to raise the shield an inch or so to get the buffeting off my head.
The Cee Bailey looks better (to me) on the C14.

I haven't pulled the trigger on a new shield, it'll be change #2 to the bike (risers are #1, they are on the way).
I think I've decided on the vstream too, there's that site that has it for $135. I'm not sure the calsci or cee bailey would be $70 better. I like the looks of the vstream better, and I'm a long time National Cycle customer, having had 2 switchblade shields between my Suzuki C50 and Vulcan 1600
Seems like you can't go wrong with any of the 3, they all seem to have favorable reviews from people who own them.

I am six feet tall and I recently switched from the Cee Bailey Euro to the Vstream - I do not like the looks of the taller Cee Bailey. I am a happier with the Vstream. It is wider and about an inch taller than the Euro. And, it is pretty quiet full up. I look through the Vstream when it is full up, always looked over the Cee Bailey. Both of shields vibrate quite a bit when at 75+ or when you are in the wake of a car or truck. The Cee Bailey is made of a thicker material but the Vstream is warranted not to break.
I put about 9K on the Cee Bailey and about 500 miles on the the Vstream - I am sold on Vstream, main drawback is that it shakes a lot at speed.

CBUT on my 2008
I am 6' 3"
Works great for cal bay area weather and great wind protection
But when doing over 80 it does move a lot so be warned... With it fully up I tend to worry above 90 ....

Not what you requested but an opinion all the same...... my vote goes for the Vstream. First the bad - It does flex at high speed (90mph+) and extremely windy days. That's about it for the bad. The good - polycarbonate so it doesn't scratch as easily as plastic. It does an excellent job of throwing air around the rider. My main reason for upgrading the 2010 windshield was because my passenger constantly complained of head buffeting. In the full upright position, the air is is pushed around her also. When she is not with me I keep it in the full down and there is still plenty of air coming at me. With the tall stock windscreen there was way more air coming at me in the full down. With the Vstream it is much more comfortable.

CB Ultra Tour Domed for me. Full up I look through it. Im 6'2" with 34" inseam. I do not get much movement from mine. I like it a lot and as someone else stated its heavy/thick. 8) Also I ride 2 up a lot and the wife loves it

i have the cal sci large and im 6ft its perfect!

I went with the CalSci XL and its a little short for me. I'm 6'2" and would like to try the CB Ultra Tour Domed.

I've been researching all of the windscreens mentioned, but am also considering a MRA X-creen Add-On Variable Windscreen Spoiler Blade to boot. Other than a consistent "clunk" when shifting into first gear from neutral, my only other complaint with my C14 is the wind buffeting and noise. Anyone have suggestions for a good combination?

A different shield should fix the buffeting, what noise are you referring to? Also read here http://www.zggtr.org/index.php?topic=4382.0 (http://www.zggtr.org/index.php?topic=4382.0) where I asked about MRA, I am considering the clip on.

Just wind noise, so I’m hoping a new shield will perform as well as most has experienced. I looked at the clamp option as well. Two thoughts though, it looks a bit bulky and I wonder how easy it would be for it to become a five finger discount opportunity??
-
BTW, how does the CB Ultra look on the bike, its difficult to really get a feel for overall dimensions.
-
Cee Baily Ultra FTW, I didn't even lose gas mileage with this shield. I suspect its because one only has to raise it around and inch for everything to blow over (I'm 6'2"). Love mine. Here it is on my bike

For those who like "posing in parking lots", here's a shot of that too

CobraJock477, did these pics help?
-
Sorry mate, I was out on holiday and just got back to puter access. Yes, the pictures do help a lot. I think I'll go with it, and perhaps add the MRA X-creen later if needed. Thanks! BTW, Nice Pics...
-
Done! It's on the way.
-
I think I am going to order this one for the upcoming cold months, as well as some Baker hand wings. Good pics!
-
I have both and I think the CalSci buffets less. Probably due to the cutout in the shield. I ran the CB for the last year and last weekend put the CalSci back on and went for a 400 mile day trip. It seemed to be quieter and less knocking around. I am going to switch back and take a run to be sure, but I think the CalSci is better.

See my post above for a quick and cheap mod to reduce movement of the bigger shields. Worked great.

I assume you are talking about this other thread http://www.zggtr.org/index.php?topic=4921 (http://www.zggtr.org/index.php?topic=4921.msg56711#msg56711) talking about weather strip foam? Do you have pics to add to the thread yet?

I finally went with the Cal Sci large....just got a chance to put it on and ride it this week and I am VERY happy with it. In the lowest position the buffeting is just about gone.....slightly up and the airflow is above my helmet but I can still look over the shield. In the highest position I look through it, but the optical clarity is way better than the stock shield. The negative pressure felt on your back with the stock shield all the way up is completely gone. Great product, highly recommended!

Heated jackets are nice too BTW :D

B206, how tall ru and what's your unseam? I'm just a smidge under 6' and a 32 inseam. Just bought a vstream and it's fantastic when compared to stock, but me thinks the calsci large or XL is looming in my future.

I am 5'10" with a 32" inseam. Not only do I like the wind protection, I like the removal of the "negative pressure" on my back that was present with the stock shield in the full up position. IMHO, the Cal Sci has cleaner looking lines than the Cee Bailey.
