Has anyone looked into removing the electronics for opening the storage pocket?
I searched and did not fine anything. I think I want to be able to open the storage door anytime and bypass the fact that I am moving or that the key is not on.
I guess having it lock is ok but not sure I put anything in it that really needs to be locked.

That is one of the first things I did to mine. It's been a couple of years almost, so I can't describe how I did it, but just take the compartment out and start taking the electric stuff off. It's a real Rube Goldberg latching contraption, but if you are somewhat proficient at taking things apart its not hard to disable the electrics and the push button latch will continue to work just fine.

There's a solenoid and a small rocker that activate the lock... pull those out and you pretty much have it. I actually added a hidden pin at the base of the solenoid housing so I can disengage the lock by hand, without the key.
No, I can't describe it better. Yes, once you pull it off the bike and remove the plastic cover (exposing the solenoid and mechanism), you'll probably see what has to come off. Fear not.

Before the 'crash' there was a tech article about how to keep the electric function but install a mechanical bypass. I printed it out and did the mod. It works. I installed a difficult to see but easy to access lever through the side of the glovebox, which when pushed down slightly pops the glove box lid. If the ignition is on, the latch works as original. With the ignition off, I just need to reach into the fairing along side the glove box and push the lever. Box opens. VERY handy if you don't have the key available or don't want to turn the bike to the ON position, yet the latch still works to keep the 'honest people' out. Remember that lock only keep the honest people out. I have a hardcopy, with pictures, of the orginal modification. Anyone have it in electrons?

I did similar to Rhino... but instead of cutting out the bottom of the cover, I just drilled a hole, mounted a pin in it with a couple stops (so it stays in place)... so when you reach down, push up on the pin, which pushes the solenoid shaft up an unlocks it.
I can see those with smaller hands would have a better time with the mod Rick Hall did in that original post... but I like that what Rhino and I did is invisible (except that now all of you know how to get in to ours).

Yeah, this is the mod that I did after reading your write-up. Works like a charm. I use it a LOT.

There is really nothing to post a picture of. One picture would have the solenoid, and the other wouldn't. There really is nothing to it. Pull the compartment out, disconnect the plugs and take off the solenoid.

I've become slightly agitated several times when I realize I've left something in the storage box and have to reactivate the ignition switch to unlock it. I'm not very mechanically inclined, but based upon the previous posts in this thread I mustered the courage to try the alteration. Once the box was unplugged and removed, which was extremely easy to do, I simply removed the small plastic swivel piece the solenoid post pushes on to lock the lid. Put everything back together and plugged in. Took five minutes.
I don't worry about keeping the box locked since there's nothing in there other than odds and ends like a mini MagLite, ThrottleRocker, etc.

Good job. The other consideration to deciding to do this is that if someone wants whats inside it, even the most basic small screwdriver would pry it open on about two seconds even if it is locked. I keep my cell phone and wallet in mine every time I ride, but I never walk away from the bike without taking them with me.
