I understand all the differences between the Monolock and the Monokey Givi cases, but what I don't understand is the difference in the weight rating - 6.6 lbs vs 22. I've narrowed my selection to the OEM case or the V46 monokey.
I'm going to get Phil's rack to mount it with, and I like the idea of the matching Kawasaki case better. I just don't like the weight limit.
I thought I saw an message where someone had emailed Givi asking about the e470 quality, but I can't find it anymore.
Are the monokey cases substantially beefier, or is it that the Monolock base just isn't rated for the weight?
thanks, chuck

I can't answer most of your questions but I can say that I have the Kawasaki case mounted to Phils rack. I've at least doubled the limit in the case on several long 5-10 day trips with no issues whatsoever. I've always wondered why Kawasaki would build a box that can only carry a few pairs of underwear and socks before reaching it's limit. I've been very happy with this box however. Looks great too!

I believe the weight limit is imposed by the bike Mfgr. The GTR-1400 has plastic grab-rails and that probably is the limiting factor.
Loading a trunk sitting still probably isn't the problem, but hit a sharp bump and bouncing the trunk upward could stress it too much.

I've hauled so much weight on my GIVI mount I can't believe the sub frame of the bike held up to it. And I'd have trusted Phil's mount with that same cargo load.

Ditto! I replaced the plastic rack with Phil's rack and it made a huge difference in the stability of the top case.

I would have guessed that, but all the Givi Monolock top cases are only rated for 3 kg vs the Monokey's 10 kg.
Maybe Givi is using a least common denominator for the monolock, but it causes me to wonder about the strength of the monolock universal base.
Phil, I'm guessing you've seen both, do you think the monokey base connection is stronger than the monolock?

I have an old E460 Monokey, I suspect the weight limit has to do with the (relative) strength of the locking mechanism...
As for load, I tend to overload my top case so I went with the givi mount as it has the bars that tie back into the subframe for added strength.. Works great (Phil's rack is also an excellent choice)

A little more info here.

It looks like the Kawasaki branded cases is the cheaper version. I recenty bought one and was disapointed with it. I expected it to be at the same product level as the saddlebags. It is several levels below them. I guess I should have done more research....It does look good. ;D
