Title: F1 (auto) at Circuit of the Americas
Post by: Centex on August 25, 2011, 12:51:08 AM
The Circuit of the Americas track is being built a few miles from my house outside of Austin.

Enjoy this clip of an F1 car on the track last Sunday (http://www.autoweek.com/article/20110823/F1/110829958?utm_source=DailyDrive20110823&utm_medium=enewsletter&utm_term=article3&utm_content=20110823-Formula_One__David_Coulthard_takes_Red_Bull_F1_car_onto_Circuit_of_the_Americas_dirt_track&utm_campaign=awdailydrive).  The brief stint on pavement is FM 812 outside the track construction entrance which will be the primary access road to race events.

No, I didn't catch any of this un-publicized action in person  :'(

Initially proposed for June 2012, Bernie Ecclestone now proposes November 18, 2012 for the first F1 race at the track (http://www.pitpass.com/44450-Ecclestone-confirms-November-date-for-USA).  More time to build and more time to get cool weather.

FYI yesterday we set an all-time annual record for over 100 degree days in Austin (70) with no end to the heat and drought in sight.

Moto GP has committed to a ten-year show at the track starting in 2013.  More propaganda about the track can be found here (http://circuitoftheamericas.com/).
