Title: First impressions of new Pirelli Angels
Post by: tonedeaf on August 07, 2011, 09:01:10 PM
I just got rid of the stock rubber and mounted a set of Perelli Angels on my '11 C14 (got 4,500 miles). Put in 350 miles today through the central Colorado mountains and these are my initial impressions (comparisons are to the stock rubber):

1. Significantly lower counter-steer effort needed.
2. Way better feedback from the road.
3. "Lighter" handling feel, especially when transitioning from turning one direction to turning the other direction when in the twisties -- the bike just moves very naturally from one lean direction to the other.
4. The tires do not follow road seams (I found the stock rubber very poor in this regard).

Congrats on the new tires, and I think we all agree stockers are horrid (http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j180/stevewfl/bigthumb.gif)

I thought the stockers were fine other than the miserably short life. Must be cause I ride like a girl or sumpin.

I would concur with all of the above...

I decided to take the plunge, I just ordered a set of Angels for $270 shipped (with the 190/55 of course).  Hopefully I can get my wheels powdercoated and have the tires put on next week.  Maybe we can get some snow and that will make the decision to pull the wheels off my bike much easier.   ;)

I look forward to comparing the Angels to the PR2's and PR3's that I have been running for the past year.

Congrats Jeremy! Did you ever decide on a color for powdercoating? Seems you had a couple choices on the debate list IIRC??

Where did you get them Jeremy?

The stock tires have serious problems with crowning. Also, they wearing out prematurely. I got ~3000 miles on my first set. The sides were wore down flat leaving a ridge in the center.

I'm on my second set now but only because I bought them from a forum member for a good price. I will be switching to PR2s or 3s after they wear out this summer...

I didn't realize how bad the stock tires actually were until I put the new tires on! Only got 4k miles on the original set. With the new tires I was dropping into the corners to quick, I was afraid I was going to kill myself for the first couple hundred miles!!!!  :o

Gloss black.

@ Timbo: I got them from Jake Wilson.  I love getting my reward points.  I built up enough last year to buy a VStream and some other small items.  90% of my purchases are for tires but it add up quick when you ride like I do.  I went through five rear tires and three fronts last year.

Just be aware, all that black is gonna make mama happier with you having a slower bike and all that ;D  It should put it back to stock performance.

I already have black wheels (painted).  Wheels are one instance where black is ok.  I love how it hides brake dust and road grime.   ;D

I haven't washed my bike since August!

Might take awhile for mama to get back on the Connie with Jeremy...  :-\

I'm betting she's a tough cookie and come spring time she'll be back in the saddle, with a beating device in each hand 8)

She is waiting until her toe heals up before she gets back on.  She is still using a cam walker boot since the fracture wasn't getting any better until about two weeks ago.  Her last x-ray showed good progress but she might not be able to bend her toe again.

I have spent lots of time thinking about that day and I have not had anyone on my bike since that lapse in judgement (except taking my son around the subdivision).

Thanks Jeremy, looking forward from hearing how they compare with the other tires you had.
