Title: Tinting the windscreen?
Post by: AirplaneTim on July 28, 2011, 12:58:31 PM
So I put the stock short windscreen back on the bike for summer to prevent myself from over heating.  I've noticed I rarely look through the smaller screen now because I just keep it down all the time.  But I will still occasionally duck down to get behind it when I want to hear my speakers a little more clearly.
What are some recommended techniques for tinting the windscreen on this thing?  Get the darkest film I can find and put it on the inside?  I've heard of some people here spray painting it, but I'm pretty sure I don't want to go opaque.

The tint film will not stay on. You'll need to use the "spray on" tint. Go and check out your local auto parts store.

Just one of many videos that are on Youtube: HOW TO TINT YOUR TAIL LIGHTS WITH VHT NITESHADES (VIDEO 2 OF 2) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-8-hZP6-ZY8#)

Speakers inside my helmet.  No, I have not mounted anything silly like that to my bike.

Nice.  Do you apply to the inside, outside, or both?

Just do it to the inside. That way you can clean the outside off.

Another vote for painting the shield.  I used Krylon and it works awesome.

With this product designed specifically for tinting, the windshield will be blacked out from the front but rider can still see through it from behind.

I'm definitely leaning towards Steve's reccomendation.  I'll see if I can find any at my local store before ordering online.  I'll try it out on some spare plexi before applying to the windshield, and will certainly get some pictures up once I do it.

I tried night shades on an old helmet shield before spraying it on my windshield and it diddnt work so good, turned out really blotchy. Kept putting more on till it looked even but by then you couldnt see through it at all. I have had good luck using it on tail lights. CalSci has a really nice dark tinted one for 125.00

Just the back (rider) side.  Those pics show 2 different shields.  One OEM, one OEM cut down 4".
