So I picked up a passport 9500ix last week and I am trying to figure out a good way to install it. I'm trying to stay away from a ram mount or similar(trying to keep it hidden). If anyone has a few pics of a nice install or some good ideas it would be appreciated.

Mine is mounted on the clutch reservoir. I mount it with dual-lock (like velcro only strong as hell). I have a set of LED lights mounted over the gauges - see second picture...

I know you don't want to use a Ram mount, but that's what I use on the right handle bar raised up 4". Works well for me.
As far as mounting it "hidden" ... folks I've seen before on other boards (ST1300) mounted it under the faring in a water proof box. Radar "sees" thru the Tupperware of the bike and the plastic water proof box. You just have to have it hard wired and switched to run when the bike is on and off when it is off.
Then ... you need to have someway of "hearing" it. Which is not all that difficult.
Personally, I don't mind having it visible. It works fine for me. I do toss a zip lock bag over it in the rain, altho the LEOs don't regularly use radar in the rain, but the unit will fail. I've had that happen. I park where I can see my bike, toss my jacket over the windscreen, helmet on the CB ... or take it all off and toss it in the tank bag, then into the side bags.

Here's my set-up, went with the ram mount on the bar with the magnet plate. I really like it, it's a 1 second process of pulling my radar detector off when parked somewhere. I opted to super glue the magnet that attaches to my actual radar detector just because I didn't trust the sticky back tape in variable winter/summer temps... I don't use any additional straps other than the magnet and this thing doesn't budge, even at 140+... ;D

I also have the H.A.R.D. system that sends a signal to a small LED light in my helmet, works sweet!! I totally recommend it, has saved my butt more times then I can count, here's the link to them and some pics of my helmet...

The H.A.R.D. deal is a good thing to have as well if you don't have the detector wired to speakers in your helmet.
I've used it many times .... I do sometimes forget to turn it off and run the batteries down. Stupid me. But, the mini LED flashing in my side sight works pretty well. I do like the audio alert better, tho.

Are the LED warning lights something you rigged up or bought aftermarket? I like the clean setup. Will be doing this.

I bought them from Marc Parnes. They are a little pricey, but they work great.

I also went on the right cover, Bent some aluminum, velcroed the bottom and added a strap. A single bright LED is on the visor (radio shack) plugged in to ext. speaker......The plate is screwed to the cover using exesting screw....blanton

About the alerting method... I didn't care for any led's in my helmet, or elsewhere on the bike. When riding in the zone, staring at the dash is the last thing on my mind. A flashing led all of sudden inside my helmet would likely be distracting at a bad time (ie in a corner). Instead, I opted to go with escort's amplified speaker. It uses the headphone jack of the radar detector and a +12V for power. With minimal wind, I can hear it quite well up to 80/85 mph on the fz1, even with ear plugs in. Probably more so on the connie due to more fairing/windshield.

The flashing LED in the helmet isn't blinding, I would compare it to suddenly seeing flashing police lights right behind you in the rear view mirror. No pun intended there, but that's exactly what it looks like when mine goes off IMO...
