Title: Shop put on 110/70-17
Post by: MrPepsi on July 11, 2011, 02:04:39 PM
So I just had new PR2s put on Razzi and I was looking over the paperwork. Looks like they mounted a 110 instead of a 120. No reason to be conerned is there? I know others have used the 110 in the past for various reasons. I could take it back, but if it really isn't going to hurt, I'll just ride it out and be more specific next time. I'm a very moderate rider, maybe .5 cm chicken strips front and rear and once a year I go on a two up ride of 2000 miles.

I would make them change it .
Do they just put on whatever is   laying around?
They should not deviate from recomended sizes unless you authorize the change.

I'm with DavO...

They have no right messing with tire sizes unless the customer specifically requests it, and even then they should warn you that it was not the size the manufacturer designed to be on the bike.

Now if it was a 110 car tire.... That'd be ok..  :)

Of course Jerry is right, a car tire would be OK unless it was mounted backwards.

But seriously, I have not heard of anyone using a 110 width front tire on a C-14. ?? As others have said, if you did not 'OK' that I would say to have them change it for the correct tire size. A 110 <may> be OK on the C-14 wheel width but I would do some research to find out before just accepting it.

I think I'm scheduled to have it swapped this Thursday.
I leave for the Northwest COG rally next week.

What did they have to say for themselves about this?

If you carry a tire in to have mounted that is not the exact stock size, dealers will not mount it, claiming it is against the law.

If you paid for the right tire, you should get the right tire.  Plain and simple.  Unless you pulled the tire off the rack and said "here, mount this", it is their mistake, not yours.

They truly are the best shop I have ever been to, so I forgive them.

What did they have to say for themselves about this?

Brent,

My apologies. Not sure how that happened. I can order you a 120 and we will swap no charge obviously….

Brent,

Yes. The tire will be here by Thursday. I’m sorry for the inconvenience.
From: Brent Johnson

Can you have one in by Friday?
I can drop it off Thursday again.
I leave for my two up ride next Thursday the 21st.

Sounds like good folks.  That is the kind of place I spend my money even if they are a little more than other shops.  I am glad it worked out fine.

In downtown San Francisco.
Convenient enough for me to ride the train home after dropping the bike off.
Unfortunate I have to drop it off again.

I got a 120/60 labeled as a 120/70 a while back, of course I noticed it after I installed it and it didn't look right. :-[

The shop I bought it from switched it out with a 120/70 they had in stock.

They got the tire in on Thursday and I planned to drop it off Thursday afternoon and pick it up Friday after work. That requires me to walk up to the Castro, take the train home and reverse that after work the next day. When I arrived on Thursday the shop looked like they weren't too busy so I asked if I could just wait. They said less than one hour. I walked up to the Mission and had a beer (oh yes I said it) and some ships and walked back. 30 minutes after I dropped her off, she came rolling in from her test ride all set. The mechanic handed me the keys and said all done. I walked back in for my helmet and she said again, so sorry for this. Do you have one of our T-Shirts yet? Nope, she said what size and I walked out with a new shirt. I even wore it to work today. :) Now Razzi and I are happy.

A beer and some ships? That must have been a bit filling?

They were small ships.

I think that is really irresponsible for you to mention that Brent. This is a public forum and a lot of young and otherwise new motorcyclists may read what you have written and think it is OK to do that. I think you should retract that statement and say something far more correct in its place! Specifically, there is no need or want to give or take back 'the keys' from a dealer working on a C-14; we all know you only have to turn your fob over to them and the keys (actually 'key') stays with the bike at all times. I really thought you knew better.....

 ;D

Sorry Brian, you're right.
There is only a single key inside the FOB.
My mistake. ;D
