Title: Front Brake Upgrade - C10 (1994-2006) Not for sale anymore.
Post by: Equito on July 25, 2021, 10:31:33 AM
I never installed my ZRX caliper adapter plates I got from Shaun Forgacs (he made/sold a bunch of adapter plates here some time ago), and the bike's long gone.  This upgrade is for use on the original rotors, only.  I'm selling the caliper adapters, the uninstalled longer Galfer brakeline set (custom order), and a set of 6-piston ZRX calipers to complete the upgrade.  Deal includes my email thread with Shaun re: install that has the labelled pic for the adapter install.

NOTE:  I believe these adapters will NOT fit the earliest Concours fork tubes (1986-1993).  They will fit all 1994-2006 Concours.

NOTE:  I bought the ZRX calipers (includes pads) off of EBay.  They're painted black (caliper paint).  I disassembled and cleaned them, inside and out, but I've never used them, and, given the passage of time, it's likely they need a new piston seal kit before use.

$225 for the works, shipped within Continental US.  Payment via PP (regular, no F/F), I'll send you an invoice.

Have you looked at the pistons lately?  Wondering why you mention possible new stuff needed.

1.  I've not looked at the pistons lately - when I got the calipers (years ago, now), I checked and they were fine.  If you're at all potentially serious about purchasing, I'm happy to break them down and take pictures for you (or anyone).

2.  I mentioned the seals because they're made of rubber and are now close to, if not more than, 20 years old.  Rubber degrades naturally over time, starting with becoming stiff/hard, which is when they may start to leak.  Brake piston seals are considered a wear item that should be replaced periodically, even with normal use (I think Kawasaki recommends every 2 years!).  These calipers' seals have been on a shelf for years with no fluid contact, so they're likely dried out and not performing their function, today.  In fact, I don't know that these seals are bad, I just know I'd replace them under these facts before installing the calipers, possibly/likely finding a leak, then having to pull them off/apart to fix when they're full of fluid.

Thanks for reply.  Agreed about the seals as I didn't know it's been that long since you took apart.  I'm thinking......

I took them apart when I got them in 2008.

Got a deju vue on that one!  I pulled the kit off of ebay last July after a guy spent his time and mine to negotiate a decent discount on the kit, THEN tried to get "just the lines and brackets" for less money (leaving me with the calipers), THEN, after I agreed to that in good faith, he tried to get me to sell him just the brackets ("just bought the lines", he said) for even less money (leaving me with the calipers AND the special-order brake lines that wouldn't fit anything else).

With that history in place, I'll you what I told him - you can buy the kit for whatever price we decide, and you can re-home the calipers and lines at your convenience.  His response?  "I'll buy a ZRX front end and graft it onto my bike."

FYI for anyone considering these calipers. Suzuki used the same calipers and sells a piston seal kit that is currently $45.60 per caliper at Ron Ayers site, Kawasaki individual part prices equals $91 per caliper.

What rotors are needed?

The adapters are designed to fit the 6-pot ZRX calipers to the stock forks and front rotors on all 1994-2006 Concours.

I've decided to pull the kit from the market.

Moderator, please close/delete this thread.  I could not determine how to modify my original post.
