Yes I got the "first" pirates lair backrest today. just got home from the pirates lair garage.
sorry about the pics they are from my cheap cell phone camera.
Phil's rack is awesome and rock solid.
if your on the waiting list it won't be long. Jerry at pirates lair got me all fitted up and took some measurememts and made sure all was right.

New Farkle: how about a new camera?
Sorry! ;D
-
I had a test unit back in April and they are a quality product. I was hoping he would make the setup to accommodate a top box as well but no dice...
-
I am indeed on the mailing list, so I'm looking forward to it. :D

it should not be long, Jerry is getting ramped up. I live close enough and he needed to do a final fitting. so I went up there and he did what he needed to and I got the first one out the door.

yeah it would have been nice to combo a backrest/top box mount, but I think it would have been too costly in the end. but its still workable. have the backrest for day trips and such and still have a solid mount for a traveling top box with Phil's rack.

As far as I could see the base just needed to be longer to fit a box but water under the bridge, like I said it is a great unit if all you want is a backrest but making it solely for that purpose is kind of limiting your audience in my opinion. Here are a few photos.

Nice looking back rest...does it make it much harder to swing your leg over? What are the round knobs on the tops of your saddlebags?
-
556ALPHA, is that a Honda tank pad?? What's up with that?? What kind of seat are you using?
-
Funny, nobody else caught that. Yea, had it left over. I have been using the Tech Spec for quite a while now. That was a Spencer modified stock seat with a HT Moto cover.

I have a hard time buying from any company with the word "pirate" in it.

To address this situation, Pirates-Lair's rack is now long enough to mount any brand trunk, including the Givi monokey trunks using the SW-motech kit. It is not drilled/tapped for the kit, but the hole locations are spot-drilled on the bottom. Since their rack is positioned 2.250" farther forward than stock, to better fit the backrest, the trunk may crowd a passenger but this location is ideal for solo riders who want to centralize the weight of a trunk. For those who also want to accommodate a passenger with a trunk, I have pairs of mounting rails that re-locate the rack rearward to the stock location. Hopefully this combination will now meet the needs of everyone.

Cell phone cameras wouldn't get such a bad rap if people would just clean their
fingerprints and PB&J off the lens before they took a pic. ::)
Sorry for the :offtopic:, sometimes my soap box just appears for no reason. :o

how much for the rail kit? I and my GF have been very happy with the PL back rest so far. adding a truck to it can only make it better...
