Title: Switchback lighting real cheap
Post by: Mhodges on August 13, 2017, 06:15:28 AM
Hello everyone! Been lurking for awhile and this is my first post. Found switchback lighting on EBay for the cheap.

I installed this yesterday and so far it works great. Nice and bright. And you can't beat the price: $22 shipped!

Surprised by both the price and that they have the strange "Y" type offset required by our bulbs.  I still prefer my solution of yellow front running lights at full brightness and then blinking off for turn signals (and with a solid-state flasher/no load resistors), but it was a lot of work.  That solution (the switchback) is much easier.  Had it been available back when I did all the work on mine, I would have jumped on it for sure.  For a motorcycle, it is a major safety feature to have always on more/wider lighting on the front and front sides creating the coveted visible "triangle" to front facing vehicles and a marker for side vehicles.  The stock placement of the front turn signals on the Concours makes them ideal for yellow or white DRL.

It would be cool to see development of something similar for the clear rears- dim red for tail lighting, bright red (or 3 flash + solid, with delay-to-reactivate) for brake, and yellow with switchback for turn.

Welcome

Are these the ones from Mod My Gauges, or a different company?

They look like the same ones I bought from fleabay which required a bit of self modification but are significantly cheaper than the preconfigured option

These are plug and play mostly. Just connect 12v to the loose wire for running light. And mount / zip the resistors. I had to push rubber grommet all the way in to secure light bulb and done. Worked perfectly first try.

I installed the same ones recently, only I got them for $12.45 from Ali Express. I already had the 2 pin LED Flasher Relay installed, so I went ahead and cut out the resistors and wired them directly into the existing circuit. Tapped the accessory wiring on the left side of the bike ('08 model) for the switched power and voila. Excellent and cheap mod.

Mhodges,

Could you post a pic/vid of the finished product?  I'm curious to see how it looks.

Thanks,

Ray

This is a video I found on YouTube of the install.  Seems pretty straightforward.  I am going to install the DMP flasher relay and cut out the resistors, since I plan on installing some JDM Astar bulbs on the back.

Has anyone purchased and installed the ones from ebay and if so how do you like them?  I am interested in getting some.   Thoughts?

MHodges,

Thanks for the write-up.  I bought the same set up, took forever to ship from China, and installed it yesterday.  Couldn't find a clean way to stash the original sockets so I just cut them out and soldered the wires together.  Works like a charm.
