Title: New Concours rider in Oklahoma
Post by: Jojococomo on April 08, 2017, 06:19:11 PM
I purchased a 2014 Concours with 4 miles on it a few weeks ago. So far I have ridden it approximately 1,000 miles and it vapor locks on me every time the fuel gauge reads 1/4 tank or less. I have taken
it back to the dealer twice and they can't get the bike to "act up" so they can't fix it.

When it vapor locks it will start acting right for a short time if I vent the gas cap or better yet fill up with gas. Makes for some poor mileage between fill ups.

I am planning on riding this bike from Oklahoma to Tennessee in June but I won't ride
a bike that far from home that has these issues.

I'm not a mechanic don't claim to be. However, I think a brand new bike should be more reliable.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated

Jodi

Welcome to the forum. Sounds like the vent line is plugged.

Go to http://www.zggtr.org/index.php?board=2.0 (http://www.zggtr.org/index.php?board=2.0) and type plugged vent in the search box.

Hi & welcome... I think the same as above, the vent may be blocked, if the tank can't breath then you finish up with a mild vacuum in the tank.

Jodi,
I agree with the others here.
However, if you can't fix it yourself, I can personally vouch for and recommend Stillwater Kawasaki.
The owner there is named Bobby Pugh.
Good man. Tell him Bob Embrey in Skiatook sent ya.
Bet he can fix it.

Welcome along   :)

Like the others have suggested, it sounds like a blocked/trapped vent pipe, if so it shouldn't be difficult to fix

Is there a rush of air from the tank when you release the cap to refill ?

I think I will take it to Stillwater OK as HOK isn't fixing the problem.  Thanks so much for all the great advise.

Jodi

If it can be fixed, Bobby can fix it.
He's the ONLY Kawi dealer in Ok I trust to work on mine.
I met him through a friend who was also a C14 owner that used him for years.
Good luck, hope you get it fixed. The C14's a great bike, and very reliable.
Bob

I'm undecided if that's the best or the worst pick up line I've ever heard.  :-\  :rotflmao:

:rotflmao:   Welcome, Jojo!   The vent system is the culprit.

I wasn't trying to be that welcoming.
