Title: C14 TPMS all dashes?
Post by: srech77 on October 26, 2016, 09:08:16 PM
Just had new tires installed. Put them back on the bike and rode, the rear wheel pressure registers fine on the dash, the front pressure just shows dashes... Figured out the guy broke the sensor when removing the front wheel, so he ordered a new one and installed that. I put the wheel assembly back on and went for a ride, but the front pressure is still just showing dashes --- (like so).

Ive read some here on the forum that new sensors need to be sync'd with the ecu? Is that correct? Cant seem to find a consensus on this on other threads.. im assuming the new sensor has a battery pre-installed? I also read something about doing a reset, but that seemed more specific to error readings on the dash, which i dont have. I just have all dashes after the "F" when you look at the tire pressures...

Any help is appreciated -

A new sensor must be registered to the bike's ecu - dealer visit needs the ID number off the new sensor.

A Kawasaki KDS system must be used to program the new sensor.

Yes, the bike's ECU gets programmed for the new sensor. Otherwise it can't 'see' the sensor. No way around that.

Now for the bad news. Unless you have the sensor ID number you can't have the bike programmed to recognize the sensor.

Where is this magic number you ask? On the sensor...    :o

Dang - is that number also on the packaging it comes in, or only on the sensor? He still has the box it came in...

Well, all the sensors I have seen come in a plastic bag, and they are Kaw products, not ebay stuff... the newer versions have a slip of paper with them with the numbers on it, and also on the sensor itself, the gen I sensors only had number printed on tag stuck to sensor...
No matter which, looks like tire comes off again.... for the number...

And you need a dealer with the KDS to program the bike.

I don't know where you live but if your near central Fl I have a KDS system & will do it for a fraction of what a dealer will charge

I guess we still don't know where you are located but I'm new Indianapolis and also have one.  If needed I also have a tire changer so if we need to get a look at the label on the TPMS module that can be done too.

Thanks all for the replies - I live in Montana, but I appreciate the offer. So you said the newer sensors have that info on some paper that comes with the sensor, so I shouldn't need to remove the wheel to get that number, correct? As the guy who installed it still has the packing - he is supposed to be sending me a picture of the wrapping with that info on there.

He also mentioned the frequency the sensors use is the same as most automotive tire sensors, so that maybe a tire place where I live could figure out how to sync it up? Only because the closest Kawi dealer is about 2 hours away... which would be fine, but would simplify things if I could find somewhere in town to do it..

Anyway - thanks all for chiming in, we'll see what happens ..

Nope.  Must use the Kawasaki diagnostic program.

As others have already mentioned. The programming of the bike's ECU can NOT be done without Kawasaki's KDS 3 and what are the chances that a tire place would have one of these systems?

Here's some reading on the system, start on page 3. Yes, this was written for the superior First Gen C-14s but it still applies to your bike.
