Title: Does anyone make a rear stand for the C14??
Post by: ZG on June 29, 2011, 11:12:33 AM
I'm considering going to a full Muzzys dual exhaust system, they make an altered center stand to accomodate but I actually rarely use the center stand except in the garage sometimes...

Does anyone make a rear stand that will work on the C14? Like a Pitbull stand or something??  :-\

They make rear stands for bikes that can take spools or that have a flat section that a basic "L" shape can get under and lift. Since I don't have my bike here today, I cannot go look to see how it would work, but I am sure you could get something to work.

Man, I just don't see how that would work. I still have my old Pit Bull rear stand from my sportbike days, but there's no way it'll work on the Connie. The lift points between left and right are at different levels and there's not really anything on the shaft side for the stand to lift. The right side isn't much better because most of what you'd be lifting on is the axle nut. Let me know if you come up with something--perhaps something made for a bike with a single-sided swing-arm? Don't know, but can't really picture it.

Also, FYI, unless the bike is on the center stand, I cannot lift the front of the Connie with my Pit Bull front stand. It's just too heavy. I suspect you'll have the same problem with a rear stand.

Deflate the rear tire and the Pit Bull front stand is a breeze.

No, because the BMW axle is hollow in the center, allowing for a large pin to go through one side (the single sided swingarm side) allowing for wheel removal.  The final drive cannot be serviced with that stand however.

If there's a market for it I'm sure someone could come up with something that lifts via the lower Tetra-Link pivot points.
Could be a cup that fits around the link or replace the bolt in there with a longer part with a spool on it that the stand can hook into.
Since both lower Tetra-Link pivots are at the same level it should work fine but I'm not sure how much lift you could get.

There ya go, it's a project for one of our enterprising fabricators.

Personally, what I do is centrestand on a 2"x4", remove rear wheel, re-fit axle, put 2 axle stands under rear axle.
The jack up the front until the weight is on the centrestand and axle stands, remove front wheel, refit front axle and put one axle stand in there.
It keeps the bike stable whilst both wheels are off.

What would one be worth?  How much of a market is there?  I believe I could get one made up, but perhaps not at an attractive price.

I'm trying to lose the center stand attached to the bike all together though Boom if I go to a dual exhaust system...

Learn to use the center-stand. It works well and is very easy to use. So easy in fact that I use almost all the time no matter where I am. And I am not a big woman.

If you need leverage you can order a lift handle from ProjektD.

If you want something to easily stand the bike upright when you are in your garage, simply order a Sports Chock from Baxley. I have used them for years. Simply ride onto it and get off. Very stable.

I think you're missing my question and purpose PPBB, you "can't" use the oem center stand with the Muzzys dual system, you have to get a modified one, which I'd rather not if a rear stand is available...

I think you misunderstood. I can get the Connie on the front stand, but only if the bike is already on the center stand (and without deflating the rear tire). Try lifting your Connie onto a front stand without using the center stand and you'd better be significantly stronger and heavier than I am because it wouldn't budge for me. Since the OP is talking about using a rear stand with no center stand, I suspect he's going to run into the same problem--lifting the entire weight of the bike with the stand. Since the motor is closer to the front (fulcrum) it will probably be easier, but I don't know if it will be easy enough.

If you only need the centre stand occasionally and only when in your garage take it off, and only put it on to do the work you need to do. No need to install the spring etc just put the bolt through and away you go. When finished, pop it back down onto the side stand and take it off again.
Problem solved   :)

The problem is the stock center stand won't work/mount once you have the dual Muzzys system...

Muzzys sells a modified one for $150 that will work but I thought if I could just find a rear stand for that much $ I would rather go that route and not have it mounted to my Connie all the time.

This is getting complicated.  Do you really want duals that bad?  Is it going to make that big a difference too you?

Does seem that way...so looks and possibly a power increase.  You just can't do any maintenance easily to the rear of the bike.  You could just put on a new tire ( I would go for a longer wearing one) and then sell the bike when it wears out.  That way the new owner can remove your dual exhaust and put a single one back on.

I try...good luck.  You'll need it.  Or........and this is a big Oar, you could just buy the modified center stand and have done with it.  It's only money.

I think you can still access everything as needed for service with the duals on though, here's some pics.

Is the Muzzy exhaust the same as ZX14 dual?  If so, the only mod is to extend the lever part so it doesn't hit the bottom of the pipe.  I picked one up off eBay for just that purpose.  Until it's installed, I just added some bumpers to keep the original one from hitting.

Are you running the dual Muzzys Rob??

I'm running the ZX14, with TwoBro's slip-ons.

I thought the Muzzy system was compatible with the center stand, same as the ZX14.  The only mod was to extend the lever you step down on out from under the mid-pipe.
