Title: Modular helmet - chin guard
Post by: Awaz on June 28, 2011, 10:16:23 AM
Do you know if the chin guard can be completely removed to make it a 3/4th helmet, and put it back on when in need? Just investigating possibilities. Helmet in question is a Gmax 54s.

Not sure about the GMax, but the Scorpion EXO 900 has this options. I think a few others do also (Shark maybe).

I see two phillip type plastic screws that holds the Chin bar. It appears to pivot on those when lifted up and down. But before I try to unscrew them, thought I ask here first.

I just purchased a Shark Evoline 2 ST about a week ago specifically for it's convertibility.  I looked at the Shark and the Scorpion EXO-900, but chose the Shark for two reasons.  First, you can ride at any speed with the chin bar up/open without getting the air-dam effect that you get with any other modular on the market.  Second, you don't need to remove/add parts on the Shark to go from full-face modular to 3/4 open face - Just flup the chin bar back and snap it in the rear lock position and away you go.  However, I will not that you don't want to try going from open face to closed while moving as the detent locking the chin bar in the rear position is a good one and it takes some effort to pop it loose to rotate it forward.

Nolan N43 Trilogy Motorrad Helmet has a chin guard that detaches easily.  Face shield with only full up or full down, chen vent.

I have one coming in to try.  Not a true Modular as in the 103, but close.

Check out some helmet web sites to take a look, or go to Nolan's home page.  EZ to find.
