Hi Everyone from down under, about to head off on my first East-West ride on a GTR1400, starting in the North West of West Australia and heading first to the War Birds Air Show in Temora NSW with our final destination will be Southern most point of Tasmania. My work mate will be riding his DL1000 a great bike with about the same fuel range as mine so we have planned for the same fuel stops, we will be riding through some out of the way places like Nanutarra, Tom Price, Mt Newman, Mt Magnet, Sandstone, down through Kalgoorlie to Norseman and then heading east across the Nullarbor it’s basically the same ride I did in Nov 2012 on my ST1300 so i have a good idea on what we are in for like a contain heat in and around 40c plus temp, where we can top up with premium fuel plus average food and overnight stops.
Bike ready to go with Motul 7100 full synthetic oil 10w50 engine oil and 75w140 final drive oil and small coolant leak around the thermostat fixed plus new tyres so fingers crossed both bike will give us no trouble.

Welcome to the forum. Looks like a great ride. Be safe and send pics.

A epic ride that most of us yanks can only dream about. Photos would be great.
Have fun & ride safe

Welcome! 10w-50 and 75w-140? Seems a bit thick. Specs different down there?

At 40c +/- temps...... 10w50 should be ok. Coming on summertime in Oz.

I only want pics of the toilet flushing backwards!! LOL. That's an epic trip! Enjoy and be safe.

Manual says 10w-40.. The rear drive oil only 90w above 41C. Putting 140w multi-vis in the rear drive may cause issues. Just sayin..

This time of the year in the outback 45c is not unheard of I thick that's about 115dec, plus I won’t be able to changing engine oil for 5000 miles but I would normally run 10w40 and I mixed 75w90 with 75w140 so I am guess it ends up being 110 something.
I just hoping the toilet going to flush it can be rear in the middle of nowhere.

You're right. I missed that. My reading comprehension doesn't allows comprehend like it used to.

Thicker oil there only causes more friction and heat, making things worse man. Stick what it's recommended. Factory says 75/90 for a reason ;). On the engine oil, if you're not tracking the bike or running it super hard, same thing. Stick to the recommended viscosity... but I'd definitely use a fully synthetic oil, which lasts longer and has less viscosity breakdown. Good luck.

It looks like a small detour to Cootamundra, who/why/what is there?
Don't forget to post pictures :)
