Title: Stant Thermostat
Post by: KZBell on June 25, 2011, 06:25:06 AM
If someone in the know can tell me if this is the right part number for 1987 Connie and if it is possible to change the thermostat without removing the carbs....Thanks.

Stant thermostat p/n 13368

No need to pull the carburetors just to replace the thermostat, I have R&R'd the thermostat housing 20 odd times since new (2005).

Stant 13368 is the correct substitute for the Connie Thermostat according to the chart I have.

Thanks for the replies...despite proper levels bike has been running on the warm side so I figure I will throw in a new stat to see if that helps.

On an older bike it is also a good idea to replace the pressure cap too; they can leak by slighty at lower pressures thus causing the engine to run warmer without puking fluid out of the bottle.

To follow up on the old cap idea, my gasket on the cap had swollen enough that it would not release pressure.

The cap looks to be in good shape but I will swap it out just in case since it's not something that will break the bank.
