Title: Taller guys ergonomics (6'3" 33" inseam)
Post by: Stephen.G.Fiddes on June 19, 2015, 11:17:50 PM
Long time no post for me... Been busy witb work.

Anyways, I've put almost 24k miles on my '13 connie. I get pretty bad neck and trapezius tension after riding for a long time. I ride almost every day between 100-300 miles so this becomes an issue.    My shoulders are already tight from all the hours I spend at a computer, but riding is definately not helping.

Current setup:
08 short screen
Helibars 2" risers
AST pullbacks
Grandpa footpegs on canyon cages
Laam seat (which i am less than impressed with, but its better than the stock one)

I have tried a number of different configurations for the handlebars.

Ive tried a number of windscreens (shorty is on for the summer, V-stream will be on this winter)

I just cant seem to find a comfortable position on the bike tho.

Things I havent tried:
Wedges
Peg lowering kit
Different seat

Thoughts???

I'm 6'2" and have the 2" bar risers and AST lowering pegs....the risers are nice and the 1 3/8" lower pegs helps a lot on my 62 year old knees. I had problems with AST getting me the proper bolts and spacers so it is probly worth looking at other manufacturers of these lowering pegs. Ryan at AST finally got me most of the proper hardware to make them work but it took a couple weeks and a lot of screwing around by me making spacers work. He is very difficult to contact for any help but did give me a nice set of helmet locks to compensate for the long wait which I appreciated. I still need more peg  lowering however and am thinking of maybe going with the offset pegs in addition to the lowering pegs which would give it a total of almost 3".....every inch counts in my opinion but I hate to be dragging pegs constantly. I think canyon cages and maybe highway pegs on them is in my future. I have a Baldwin Grand Touring seat on order with a build date of July 2nd so will re-think things once I try the new seat which is a necessity for me. This will be my 3rd custom seat on my last 3 bikes and once you sit on a quality custom seat you will never go back. I think the 14 with the right ergonomics is what will keep me riding well into my 70's.

I am 6'2" and 32" inseam. 235 lbs. This bike fits me like a glove. I have had four of these and have yet to buy anything like risers, foot-pegs, seats, or anything else that helps it fit better. I did buy the Cee-Bailey's Euro Shield and could have tried the Ultra Dome and had greater wind screening.
127,000 miles in 6 years 1 and a half months.

I don't know what trapez... tension is but I have a neck and a shoulder issue towards the end of a long ride.  Even starting to get it in the car.  Mine goes back to a pinched nerve in C5/C6.  I find that Solgar B-Complex 100 helps some with mine.

Same here. Get the pain when riding, driving, and even when I mow the grass on my Deere rider. Diagnosed as stenosis of C5/C6 area of spine. I can find no relief, but will try this Solgar stuff. Where can it be found? Is it OTC, or do I need a scrip?

Edit: never mind...I Googled it.
Thanks!

I was pretty much in constant pain from it and then a good massage therapist helped but the real kicker was changing the side of the bed I slept on and facing the opposite way did the trick.  In researching pinched nerves I found the reference to taking B-complex vitamins.  Many years ago my father-in-law had issues with a nerve in his knee.  The local doc prescribed vitamins.  I thought he was a quack but it worked on my father-in-law.  I think I got mine at Amazon.

Traps are the muscles just inside of and above the shoulder blades. I used to get REALLY bad burning sensation on my 650. Its not nearly as bad now, but I get really tired of feeling like I got hit by a truck after riding.

Its mostly upper body that gives me issues.

How about wedges? Anyone experiencing pain in the shoulders/ upper back that had it fixed by the wedges? (Just trying to get ideas before instart mindlessly throwing money at it.)

Wedges or risers did not help me.  I finally bought the Heli bars which holds off the pain until towards the end of a long day of riding.

I completely forgot about the horizons! Not sure i want to throw $38483938373 at it but that is definately an option to look at.

Hopefully I'll only be riding for work for a couple more years... I love riding and all, but when you put as many freeway miles in traffic on as I do, its not as fun..  Id rather enjoy it! Someday I want to tour the country (on this bike) but I need to be able to put on 500 miles without hating my life first. Its a great bike! My body just isnt agreeing with... Somehing...

If you guys want to ride longer, you must exercise by doing squats, cycling, calastenics and situps!

:yikes: I'm afraid that might conflict with my beer drinking, cigar smoking, hammock lying leisure time.
