Post by: tthompsr on June 22, 2011, 10:49:50 AM
Anybody here have experence removing the bag locks? If so is there any tricks to save me from completely disassembling the lock assembly? (from what I can see It looks like you have to drill out all the rivets to get the lock cyclinder out).

Won't they just fall off or get stolen all on their own...  ;)

I'm trying to replace the mismatched bag locks that the dealer installed on my bike, I have new tumbler's that now match the ijnition and gas tank lock, but I wouldn't let them install the locks because they scratched my bag installing the wrong ones! any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have switched a bag lock between two seperate bags and IIRC there are 4 bolts that hold the lock/handle assembly to the bag.  They will just pull off of the bag after you remove the bolts.

If you are wanting to remove the actual lock cylinder from the lock/handle assembly then I would reccomend finding a skilled locksmith since the one that I took my lock into said that it would take them around 30 minutes ($70) to switch them between the two.  I decided that I would just leave it the way that I had it.

Thanks for the reply Jeremy, Yes I'm looking to replace the lock cyclinders, right now I'm carrying 4 keys around and would like to cut that number down, I've had the lock/handle assembly off the bag and from the looks of it everything
is put together with rivets.
