Hey guys. I was attempting to "tint" my stock windshield and I guess I didn't read the cleaner label and it basically cooked my screen. Cracked all over (stupid stupid). Tried everything to fix it but I gave up. I would like a new one to replace my mess up. I would like your opinion in replacing it. I am 5'7" and ride all year including the winter. I want my screen to be tinted (obviously) and that's about it. Just want it to protect me from the winds when I "roll" it up. If a wider one can be thrown into the mix I'm happy with that too. What brand and screen do you think would be best for me? I am reading old posts and searching the interwebz right now but just though actually user input would be awesome. Thanks!

You will want to search the forum for relevant threads.... there are dozens about windshields that will be helpful.

Thanks for all the threads! I read all of them and unfortunately all the reviews were from guys over 6ft tall with the exception of one who's recommendation was to purchase two shields. Was just wondering if any of the shorter guys could recommend what they went with as a permanent shield?

As mentioned (by me, actually) in at least a few of the threads, one's standing height has little to do with the size a windshield needs to be. First and foremost, torso length (your sitting height) can vary drastically with standing height. For example I am easily the same sitting height as many 6 foot tall people, even though I am only 5'7". Then there is the grip location in 3d space (height and forward/back position), seat type and height, seating position of the rider, arm length, helmet type, etc. It is doubtful anyone can answer your question adequately, without being you and on your bike. I wish they could, though, it would make such things a LOT easier.
-
Haha it would be easier. Thanks for the help =) Probably gonna go with a tinted Puig unless I read something wrong with them in the next few hours.

I'm 5'5" and I have the CalSci tinted shorty that I use for warm weather riding (for hot weather I use the stocker that I blacked out and cut down)

This last pic is of the cut down stock shield that I blacked out. Don't throw your old messed up shield away!

C, you covered warm and hot what about cold?

Conrad,
How did you black our windshield out?

I got in on the group buy for the stock Gen 2 screens a while back. Since I'm 5'5" that sucker works great for me!

As I said, my plan was to tint the screen using the stuff below but after the damn valve sputtered I ended up putting several coats on and blacked out the screen.

I've had great luck with Kylon Plastic Fusion 'satin black'
Paint the backside and the clear screen will make it look glossy from the front and the satin back will match well with your dash plastics!
Good luck! I've done the bottom half of my super tall VStream ( to make it appear sportier and less HUGE ) as well as my trimmed stocker. I'll post pics today if anyone cares to see.

Screens are like brakes, oil, tires, batteries, seats and maintenance schedules. They are all very different depending on who you ask.
I would suggest signing up for trying the different screens. I did it a year ago and it helped a lot. Screen height preferences can change depending on weather, humidity and driver.
I'm 5'8" and don't like the high screens in november because my shield won't clear of fog. In the winter it is okay. In the summer I prefer a shorter screen. On rainy days I always wish the screen was bigger but even then it depends on my speed.
anyway, good luck with your search.

Thanks guys! Much appreciated.

Aeroflow. Simply the best IMHO.

Hey guys. I went with the Puig. I am pleased with it. It provides proper protection for me at my height, is a little bit wider than stock so I have less sheer on my outer edges as well as hands. Haven't put enough miles on the new one for a proper review but I will check in later. I do like the amount of tint that is on it. Just enough to get the impression but not enough to truly inhibit sight out of the shield. Here are some pictures of it on the bike. Puig 4619. Puig 4619H (for tint).
Front of the bike. Stickers still on it.

That stripes thing on top is a sticker? Freaky!

Yeah just their warning sticker in about 6 languages. I left it on for a short ride in case I didn't like it and still wanted to return it. There is a logo sticker on the left lower side too.

Cut down stocker and two tone VStream
Love the 2 tone V Stream. I will be doing that to mine asap. Makes it look less massive.

Cool!

There are only two C14's variants- gen 1=2008-2009 and gen 2=2010+
In his second picture, one can see the left console with glovebox and heated grips, so it is a gen 2.
BUT- gen1/2 are identical in more ways than not, and windshield fitting is identical on every C14. So Amazon's thing is wrong.
-
You can't exactly trust Amazon on whether something fits or not. I just bought a wiper arm from ebay and double checked the number with Toyota. Amazon, however, was not happy with my choice.

Did they send a drone over to straighten you out?

I don't like them drones. I've got something for them if they come my way.

Bike is a 2012 (gen2). Amazon is wrong that model is specifically for the c14. I will admit that Puig could pay a little more attention to how they cut the holes for mounting though. They make it a tight fit to put on over stock but it goes on solid and rides great!

The machine I test road(2012) wore that same screen and I was impressed with the quiet while raised.

Yeah now that you mentioned that I went for a ride today and noticed that after raising the screen 1-2 inches there was a noticeable noise cancellation with the wind. I like how it still provides great protection but makes the bike look so much sleeker!
