Title: DIY Phone Mount (Lifeproof)
Post by: Stephen.G.Fiddes on October 11, 2014, 08:20:10 PM
Scored a Lifeproof case today due to a client giving me a tip, and a store having it completely mis-marked as $40 (It's normally an $80 case!) and I wanted a way to mount it.

Picked up the belt clip for it and made this with a couple gopro sticky mounts (one was modified as pictured)

Looks good, i did something simular with a ottebox case and clip. The problem i found was the plastic my otterbox was made from did not react well to UV rays from sitting out in the sun. My first one worked out great for 6 or 7 months till i took my first long trip with it and the bike was outside the whole time, then it broke. Well thinking it just a fluke I replaced it right before another trip. i didnt make it to the end of that trip. When i contacted Otterbbox again for the 2nd replacement I ask them why i kept breaking at the tabs. They ask me how i was using it and the best answer the could give me was UV ray were breaking down and weakening the plastic, but they still replaced it for me. After that i just went to the RAM Mounts X-grip and wish i would have sooner.

Thats good to know. I may end up going that route anyways, but so far im super happy with this! Easy in and out, and super secure!

I will be tying a dummy-cord to it should the adhesive fail. I know the gopro mounts are pretty strong, but with this being in the elements almost every day (because i ride it almost every day) im not counting on the adhesive holding.

I have a triple tree mount with a removable mount with lifeforce bracket attached.
Works will.

Is that sticky mount mounted to the flat part of the handlebar?
