Title: new rear rotor and pads ordered.
Post by: lather on October 08, 2014, 03:13:52 PM
I never use my rear brake but my pad is worn down to the metal. I apparently bent my rotor during a tire change. Noticed a lot of brake dust on my rear wheel. I have an 08, no linked brakes. Rotating the wheel by hand it goes around with minimum pressure for 300 degrees then get hard. I tried straightening it with a ball peen but minimal success. The interesting thing is that a bent rotor can wear out a pad without me noticing the drag.

Your MPG should get better with no rotor drag!

Why is this not surprising?  ;D

BALL PEEN HAMMER.....what a hoot....
Yeah, I had a chuckle on that one.
I guess it was worth a shot. ;)
Kinda like playing the lottery.

It was worth a shot. Stressed steel will sometimes return to pre-stress condition with a repetitive ping.

Hey, ya'll go easy on the ball peen hammer.
(Personally I prefer a 2 pound sledge.... (or a crowbar)

Ride safe, Ted

I learned the hard way that a claw hammer should only be used
On nails. When the ball peen did not work I got out my side grinder.
That was partially successful but it was getting the rotor too hot.

Can we see the instant replay on that one Bob? Please? You DID take video, didn't you?

 ;D

I think over heating the rotor while grinding it with an angle grinder is a pretty common complaint. Damn Kawasaki!

Lather, I really think that you are approaching Haroldo status, albeit in smaller steps, but close nevertheless.  :hail: :salute: :banana

Now that right there is funny!

But to get anywhere the vaunted Haroldo, someone else is going to have to do a lot more stuff in a single day and post about it all. And let's not forget the extreme emotions along the way.

Haroldo is kind of like Andy Kaufman playing Latka on Taxi- it is just a one- off performance that we mortals are unlikely to see again.

All hail Haroldo! And I say that with the greatest respect 'cause Haraldo really is a great guy wherever he is and whatever he is..... tinkering with now.

What can I say? I am a legend in my own mind and out standing in my field. Which needs mowing, badly.

Sorry, no video.

Did you say 2 pound sledge? Yesterday  I used the back of my hand to stop one in full swing

The moral of the story is, aside from the hammer business, is to go ahead and use that rear brake. After all you paid for it.
