Title: Need to purchase the Extended Warranty
Post by: billeickmann on September 10, 2014, 10:00:38 AM
It is my understanding that you can purchase the extended warranty from any dealer in the country.  Where is the best deal guys?

And please, follow the instructions there; call and speak directly to Pete, he will verbally take your card number for secure transaction.
Best of luck, ride safe

I just got my renewal from them earlier this year... Pete wasn't there, but the gentleman who helped me (forget his name now) was just as helpful and got me taken care of. Proof was receiving the renewal notice from Kawi in the mail.

I purchased my bike from this dealer in July, and I mentioned to the salesman, Stuart, that I seen on this forum there as a promo deal for this extended warranty, and he processed it without any issues.

That's a great deal, seeing as you live in Florida!!!!!
How about talking it over with that dealer, and asking them if they will provide this deal, or something reasonable (let'say $350 for a start) to ALL the Florida folks that want GTPP.....?

We need a dealer down there to step up and do this as Pete /Ultimate cannot offer that deal to Floriday residents.

MOB, Yes I am surprised that the deal was offered to me since I am a FL resident. I'm figuring that the new bike purchase had something to do with it.

That's just crazy.  Kawi sent me a pricing of $742.xx for 36 months, two weeks ago.  $1341 is steep, for sure.

Not sure how yours works as you are dealing with a different company: Kawasaki Canada vs. Kawasaki USA. I do not know if one dealer can undercut another(s) or not. ?? What is happening here is that one dealer in VA has decided he wants to sell a lot of warranties for less profit per unit, and seeing as this deal has been in place for a number of years and is all over the Internet, I betcha' he is selling a lot of them.

The warranties are set up to make the dealers huge profits. Obviously if we can buy ours for $339 (I think that is the price), and that dealer is still making money on it, then the dealers who sell it for full retail are making a LOT of profit per warranty sale. But they do not sell many warranties per year, at least not compared to someone selling to almost the entire country electronically.

I can understand the exchange rate and even some profit margin, but there comes a point where gauging comes into play.  $1000.00 difference is insane.
I'll roll the dice and opt out at this point. Unless someone up here steps up and offers a similar service to the US. I would imagine volume in units sold plays a major part as well.

Well Doug, all I can say is to do what I did, walk into a good dealer, and propose he comes up with a viable price for selling the warranty.
The deal I worked out for COG wasn't offered up outta the blue, I had to work it out personally, and Pete was wise enough to understand that making maybe $20 for ten minutes of his time, would go a lonnnnnng way with the mother ship honoring him as a black belt dealer.

So, I suggest, as I suggested to the Floriday member, to do something useful, like do something...

You could be famous like me.....eh?

Food for thought.
I'll take my IPad in there and have a chat with the sales manager and show him what you were able to do.

I wouldn't go that far, Kawasaki forbids dealers from advertising this, so It might cut our noses off to do so, I suggest just printing out the part about his pricing, and that should do.

thank you  ;)

I have six weeks left on my extended warranty.  Trying to decide if the $350 to be spent, is worth it.  My 08 hasn't had any problems, so far.  Should I, or should I not???

With home insurance, car insurance, motorcycle insurance, and life insurance already coming out of my banck acct, do I need to  add more insurance....Who came up with all this, anyway??? tp

...Trying to decide if the $350 to be spent, is worth it...

My calculations : (I apologize for the precision, or lack - the actual numbers aren't as important as the concept, for the purposes of this post.)

Insurance      $350 / 3 years   =    $0.35 / Day...
Cigarettes      $8.00 / pack      =    $0.40 each...   (ssome places lower, some higher)
Coffee at Starbucks                 =    $1.50 for smallest one
Bottle of beer                          =    $1.50 to 6.00 (depending on where you get it)

In Canada (where I'm from) the same 3 year Kawi warranty costs more than $1500, which would put it around $1.50 a day...  Still not much in the light of the above calculations...

Of course YMMV, but I think my purchase was worth it.

I did.  I bought my '08 on 7-7-07, and have upped the GTPP twice, and will up it again when I get back to work to extend my extension further. I do all my own services, so this is to cover catastrphic failures only, which far outcost this plans price.
I had my tps units replaced under my extended GTPP, that alone paid for itself.
Its a no brainer, and does add to resale value greatly..... if given the choice of buying another C14, and one had GTPP, the other had no warranty, id buy the one with it hands down, no matter what. Once it expires, you are on your own, and can never get it again...

Oh, and its $339 not $350

Yep, I was just rounding up the dollar figure.  The warranty does make sense.  Just need to find a spare $339...

Me too on everything you said (except mine was 25 July 2007 purchase).

Modern vehicles have such expensive parts that the cost of the warranty is less than even a single item failure in many cases; the ECU, the throttle body ass'y, etc., etc.. It is not like the olden' days when you could twiddle with carburetors, for example- if anything electronic fails, it is just not serviceable and the prices can be quite high.

It is all a matter of 'shooting the odds'. If I owned 100 C-14's, then the warranty would be a lousy value IMO. But only owning one, it really is a toss of the dice to have something considerably more expensive than the warranty fail w/in a three year period.

And I am curious as to whether we can extend it again also- I too will do so if I am able. Imagine, a motorcycle 12 years old with well over 100K miles on it still under factory warranty. :-)

You can extend it till Pete says no more, he is extending extensions daily... my advice if you have the pockets, is to extend, and when you get the papers saying its in effect, extend it again immediatly... you can do it man.... all good...

I'm on rationed spending, otherwise id do a double extendra right now.... in good for 2 more years on my 08, but I never intend to sell it...

I did the $339 extension on my 2010 last month.  This was a three year extension added to the one year remaining on the original two year GTTP.  At the time of purchase Kawasaki.com showed a three year warranty available for my VIN # for  $798.  Since the purchase of the three year extension the only available option showing on the site is a twelve month extension for $508.  It appears that in my case six years is the limit on the extended warranty.

That being said, $339 is one heck of deal for three years of coverage.

Rich,

My post is THE FACTS, for all to see.  No speculation.

There might be more to your end of the story, but not at my end.

I posted what actually happened.  Ultimate called me in response to my email,
I asked to extend the warranty, and was turned down point blank.  Period.

If somebody else gets an extension beyond nine years, great.

I DID NOT.  FACT.  There is no burden on me, or anyone, to do more than state the facts.

P. S. Yes, three more years for an already nine year old motorcycle with well over 100,000 miles for $339 would be pretty awesome.
