Already, we've not only driven but also track-tested the 2015 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat's sibling, the Challenger SRT Hellcat. With that 4449-pound coupe's 707-hp monster under the hood and an eight-speed automatic, 0-60 mph came and went in 3.7 seconds, onto a quarter mile time of 11.7 seconds at 125.4 mph. That time reflects launching the Challenger SRT Hellcat on asphalt, and without the help of all-wheel drive -- the optional six-speed manual might help produce quicker times. That manual gearbox, by the way, won't be available with the Charger SRT Hellcat. With the 2015 Charger SRT Hellcat sedan, just like the Challenger SRT Hellcat, moving rapidly is just part of the picture. The Charger SRT Hellcat is Dodge's rolling burnout machine, and now with additional space thanks to the extra two rear doors.

According to Car and Driver, Chevy Camaro 7/28 has faster lap times at Nürburgring then the new Porsche 911.

I read that this model style more closely follows the '71 model style. Rear lights, front grill? Looks like we are in the middle of a golden era of muscle cars.

Really cool to see the "today" technologies applied to the "yesterday" concepts...the muscle cars of the seventies updated with the new millennium technology...I am in awe of the goals reached, that is a sweet ride!

If you compare a new Challenger or Camaro with the original versions, it's shocking to see how huge the new ones are. I bet they weigh about 1,000 lbs more, too.
Which makes the performance of the new ones even more impressive, since they have to lug the extra half-ton around.

I just did a search for the 1971 Challenger vs the 2014. 1971=3,495 lbs, 2014=3,834 lbs.

The curb weight I found for the 2014 Challenger w/V8 is 4160 lbs. I'm surprised it isn't more.
The 1967 Camaro weighed 2920 lbs (V8), the 2015 Camaro SS weighs 3900 lbs, for a gain of 1,000 lbs! Of course the '67 didn't have all the safety equipment, or creature comforts, or a stiff chassis, or decent brakes, etc. I'm not saying the new cars aren't better (they are), but they sure are a lot heavier.

The Challenger weighs more than my 92 Dakota extended cab.
And that Dakota would outrun the 70 Challenger I learned to drive in. Bothpowered by 318s.
And, yes the new ones are huge and heavy. They are Chrysler 300s, after all.

Just like the saying goes, " Follow the money, and you will find the truth" I find it hard to believe a bloated new Camaro will beat a 911 on any track for more than 1 lap. Chevy blew it- they could have updated the original 302 Z/28 which was a real light weight screamer, and gone head to head with the new Boss 302 at the track just like 45 years ago.

There is no way in Hades the old Z/28 even modified would run with the new Mustang. Those old things don't handle at all. Most new cars will out handle anything from the 60s and 70s.
The old cars are nowhere near as stiff and suspension techmology has come a long way since then.
