Title: Selling my fatboy in fleabay
Post by: Awaz on August 25, 2014, 12:48:29 PM
Selling my bike on ebay. Guy in Jupiter, FL wants to buy it. Paypal is just too dang expensive to transfer fund. He says he can do cashier check or wire transfer. It looks like I will have to cash it at my bank, but to clear it at his bank, it will take a few days. According to bank, wire transfer is safe, but it amounts to whether I want to give out my account number and routing number. Which do you guys think is the best way to go?

Open another account just for this transaction... what are they going to charge you... not much compared to the peace of mind of handing out your day to day account number.

Postal money order.
If it's fake now ya got em for mail fraud. The feds don't like that.
And use the separate account. The bike doesn't ship until the MO checks good.

I have a savings account that I do not use for any transactions except for paypal and send money to my parents. I think I will use that.

This option.
Go to CraigsList site and read the scam warnings and types of payment fraud(s).

I've sold 2 bikes on ebay, one across the US and the other to Canada. In both cases I had them paypal me a non-refundable $1k, and then had them Fedex me a cashiers check for the balance. Once the cashiers check was in my bank account and my bank said we're good I allowed them to send their shipping company to my house to pick up the bike. Very painless and smooth both times.  :)

I was advised a few years ago by I riding buddy who worked in finance to open a seperate account just the transaction, after the money goes thru transfer it out and close that account....Keep in mind thats older info not sure how things have changed since then ??

good luck..

I went the wire transfer route via an account I use for paypal, etc. I have received the money and it seems everything is in order so far.
