Title: 100k just over the horizon
Post by: Pfloydgad on July 12, 2014, 07:41:04 PM
Well, after this evenings dinner ride with the wife, Hey Baby is setting at 99,900 miles on her clock.
Sunday weather doesn't look to good for riding here in central Ohio, so the 100k rollover will have to happen some time next week.
Just thought I'd gloat a little, everyone ride safe out there. And please ATGATT.
Greg

Congrats.

Some of us are curious to know of what major works you have done, and what we can expect...

I'm only at 78,000, but you ride a lot more than me down there in sunny almost southern Ohio.  ;D I am glad though that for at least a small bit of those miles, I rode with you. I'd like to announce a ride to eat event in Ohio before September.

OK, broke the 100k mark at 6:35 AM on the 16th as I was pulling into Speedway. I got a pic on my little Sonycam and of course, I lost it by the time I got home that evening. The pic not the camera. This is the 2nd Connie I have taken over the century mark. And the 3rd overall.
As far as any major work that I have done, valve adj. early on every 10k, until I broke the 50 k mark and then every 16 to 18 k. I have done 6 total the this 01 and only ever had to adjust the exhaust valves, and never ever more then 3 in a sitting.
10 prs of tires, 2 new rear splines, new rad hoses 2 times, 2 sets of throttle cables and 2 speedo cables. 6 pr of front brakes and 5 pr of rear. Carbs off only 1 time in 05 for some garbage in some fuel. 4 headlights, 4 brake lites, 3 diff windscreens, 3 prs of grips, and 1 rear shock rebuild.  I think that about covers it.
And a Sept. ride up North sound good Dave.
Not the most interesting read on here, but hopefully some info can be gleened form it.
Ride safe all, and please ATGATT.

Posts like this are a great way to get a feel of upcoming maint costs.   Thanks.
This sounds completely manageable.
Congrats and I hope your next 100k are safe.

What?  No timing or alternator chain problems? ;)  Glad to hear the maintenance was minimal.  Any advise on preventing the rear splines from wearing out so quickly?  Or is that to be expected?

I put about 150k miles on my first rear wheel, swapped it out for a wheel with about 50k on it for the fresh(er) brake disc. (I was made an offer I couldn't resist). The present splines have 125k on them. Both sets showed little wear. I use Honda moly paste on every tire change.

The bike is generally not babied and has pulled a trailer from time to time.
