Hi,
Can anyone tell me what the axle dia. is on the front and back wheels on the C14? I'm trying to mod a HF tire changer and need to make a pivot bar for the tie bar I have. I know 1/2 would work but would like to make the rod as close as I can. Thanks!

Im about to do the same thing with a HF balancer. Im just gunna use the cones that it came with and get a new bar for it.

If I'm not mistaken the front is a 25 mm axle.

Hi,
I think you are right from what I can find. Now I need the rear axle dia. in case it is smaller? Thanks!!!

Pretty Positively sure you are looking at a 20 mm rear axle...

Hi,
Thanks T Cro, that means I can use a 3/4" dia. rod on my tire changer!

Ne careful... Check to make sure its not bent if its from harbor freight. Theyre known to be bent upon arrival. If it is, just pick up a new one from home depot.

Hi,
I think you are thinking of the Tire/wheel balancer from HF! I'm working on a tire changer.

For a Harbor Freight axle cone upgrade I stumbled across this yesterday.
http://www.marcparnes.com/BalancerUpgrade.htm (http://www.marcparnes.com/BalancerUpgrade.htm) $65
Since I do not own the HF model I went with a portable one that he sells for the Concours, should be here in a few days, but reviews seem to be good.

The harbor freight axle rod that the cones go on is generally bent when you get it. If its not, then it will be soon. Just throw that rod out and go to home depot and pick up a steel tod thats the same diameter.

The rod on the HF balancer is fine, so are the cones, I have one and used it on my last tire change.
Only issue on the balancer is you have to put it together square and plumb. Then make sure you place it on a good level surface.
The rod tends to move side to side a bit, the cure is to take the ends to a belt sander, and radius them int a slight ball end, then if they touch the outboard retainers the bar has zero friction.
Also, remove the rollers, clean them and lube them well with a light oil, reassemble and to not tighten them down like an ape.
Allign them so the rear rollers sit inside, and the front rollers sit outwards
Kinda like this

There is absolutly nothing wrong with that balancer, or its parts, that learning how to assemble it and operate it won't fix.
The bar is the least of the worry. Any rod you get at home depot won't be an improvement, and I have never seen the problems you describe stephen.
The C14 axles are not 20mm the bearing sizes I believe are 17mm rear and 19 mm front, I just went out and measured mine, you can see the axles and measure them you know...... rear is slightly larger than 5/8's front is about 13/16's
I used a 5/8's threaded rod on my home made changer....
You have a C14 , go measure the axles .

In order to answer your question, I will have to loosen each axle and pull it out far enough to measure it's diameter. Why don't you save me the trouble and do it yourself?

Hi,
Jesus! I guess this is where I say,"sorry I asked" Thanks!

FYI MOB your wrong on both axle sizes as the front wheel bearing is a 6005 which has an ID of 25 mm and the rear wheel bearing is a 6304 which has an ID of 20 mm.... :o
Do us all a favor next time you want to waltz in an show us how brilliant you are least you can do is be correct..... >:(

These kind of things don't happen on my watch. ::) The problem is that no one is drinking enough beer or that they are wasting their time washing bikes.
