heh guys:
i just ordered a used corbin seat for my 08. Can anyone tell me if I need to do any mods to install it? I think I read some people remove the tool box, but I'm not sure. This is the unheated seat.
thx- mat

No, but you have to use the hardware supplied with the seat. It's two pieces so the rider section is secured front and back ( which is actually in the middle) and the passenger section is secured to the rider section and the back. And if you understand that, great! :o
-
You do not need to remove anyhting, but you do need to install a bracket that secures the rear of the drivers seat. The front of the passenger seat then locks into that.
-
Yeah what he said, just did mine very simple although was a bit of a fight getting the rear section to lock in at first, seems once I got it locked in it became easier the second and third times.

Mind if I ask what you paid for the Corbin seats?

Way too much, but damn, it is a nice seat. I'd be happy to tell you but I forgot and I'm too lazy to look it up. I will say that I tried the OEM + 3 other seats before the Corbin became the keeper.

Unfortunately, all true. The Corbin is expensive, especially when the cost of the Russell purchased first is added in, and the cost of two Airhawks are piled on top. But it is the thing that has worked for us (my wife and me) to allow us to ride for hours without any or at least any appreciable discomfort.

To be honest I didn't care about the Corbin seat, but I REALLY wanted the Smuggler.

When I had the heated seats on my 08 C14, I always had a hard time getting the rear tang on the back seat to engage the mechanism that the tang fastens into. Do not know if that made much sense or not. Anyway, I found the rear tang was a tad too short so I unscrewed it, put a couple of small washers on the part that screws into the seat thus making the tang go down further and this eliminated all my problems with the difficulty of securing the back seat. I think it made the tang a quarter inch longer.

Heh all:
I installed the seat with no problems. The first time I locked in the passenger seat, I didn't engage those two braces below the locking bar. I thought the seat was too loose, so I unlocked it and pushed down while sliding forward. No problem now.
The seat is gorgeous, but hard-OMG. Thats not to say its not comfortable. It has nice contours that fit where it counts and I like the way it hugs me. I also thinks its a bit lower than the original.
The seat is also super slippery. I suspect someone must have put gobs of armour-all on it. Do you guys have any suggestions for that?

sandpaper?

sandpaper?
Nah...Velcro. ;-)
Seriously, tho, maybe just wipe it down with one of those alcohol hand wipes. Should cut the effect of the silicone in the Armor-All.

And not the kind you drink. That would be a waste.

Leather seat cleaner from the auto parts store. Alcohol will clean it, but dry out the leather. Put some leather conditioner on if you do that.
The Corbin is hard, but you can sit on that thing all day. They break in and get better with time in the saddle.

+1 I use a leather cream I got from Seth Lamm. Works great on the Corbin leather and the seat just gets better with time.

just a thought here. Is it possible that the leather cover dries up and shrinks to a tight fit. There may be nothing wrong with the cushion underneath, but the leather needs some give to allow the foam to cushion. My leather appears to be as tight as a guitar string. If this is the case, then a leather conditioner or oil should definately work.
I got this idea when I remembered O.J. trying on the infamous leather glove that had been sitting in storage for 1.5 yrs.
