Removed the flies and decided to have the bike remapped for economy not power. Well the results are in save for me filling it up a few times and determining the change in the mpg. On the dyno at 35% load at 60mph it held 55mpg for over three minutes. The factory Average MPG from my experience is optimistic. I will see soon enough.

Be interesting to see real-world results with wind drag, hills, etc.
-
First tank since the remapping. Did 90mi yesterday with a buddy on his brand new Triumph Tiger 800, bike ain't broken in so it was a mellow pace. Then today a total hyper miler commute to and from. The result was 45.5mpg. Next tank full will be driving as I normally do.

The remapping.....tweaking the trim tables in the PC software or a reflash of the ecu?

That's basically what I get normally on my 08 without any modifications.

damn, best I've gotten when I've tried is 42.
-
I have an 08 with full Area P, flies removed PCV with Autotune and dyno'd at 161.3 and I get 52mpg at 65mph going to Idaho and back

Yup I did too. ;)

Jeez you guys are killing me. You can see my bike has full Area P, flies out, Power Commander.
Question! Are your averages taken from the meter on the dash of the bike or calculated? The average mpg on my bike is high.
-
im going off my dash but if i do the math on my 2 longest fuel runs its right around 43-45ish

You did say it was remapped for economy...so let me get this straight...you've modded your bike for more power, spent gobs of money, and then spent more money in remapping it for economy? To each his own. I've spent nothing and get roughly the same gas mileage ::) ... That's what's fun with this bike, you can do all kinds of things to it and then put it back the way it was... ;D More power to you, brother...pun intended.

And then.......there is ZG and the things that he does. :rotflmao:

Well, we do encourage characters here Poke, of which you fit in as well. ;D I could also say we're all Bozos on this bus or just let's not crush that dwarf, hand me the pliars.

WTF??? Im averaging 35. On my 2013! About 50/50 city hwy. only romp on it if theres someone being stupid or if traffic is blocking me from getting to an exit. Run in eco mode all the time.
Fully stock.
-
:yikes: You should get an 08/09...no limiter..better gas mileage, faster color.... ;) We don't need no stinkin eco mode.

Are you running in "econo" mode? I'm in the mid to high 40s on my '12. I don't do any city riding. Maybe a 5 traffic light town between stretches of state and county roads.

What evvvverrrr (channel your best annoyed teenager) ZG.
Lost a smidge over 2hp and almost no torque from last dyno session. With the flies gone the torque improved at lower revs which is exactly what I was hoping for. Let's review 162hp at the wheel vs 159.25hp translates into still more then I can figure out how to use most of the time and a bike that still runs out of talent way after I do.
Now the hypermiler in me is going to add to my records the indicated mpg vs the calculated. I will report the difference seen after a few tanks. You can also follow me on Fuelly. My bikes screen name is 'Konnie the BFH'.

Yes, almost always (unless I forget to swich to it...)

You guys make a lot of sense... nonsense
:deadhorse:
I love the brakes, you don't even own one but you ALL ....

'08 with full Area-P, flies removed, BMC air filter, PCV w/auto-tune. Dyno showed 151.35 HP. Mileage overall(combined) is around 37-38. I must be doing something wrong. Everyone else getting 40-55 mpg? Maybe I'm carrying too much weight, I mean the bike and myself.
-
I have a stock 08 and the best I have gotten is 43mpg but I don't ride a lot on the slab I prefer the back roads and twisties and usually am riding the bike between 3800-4500rpm. More often it is between 39-41mpg

The best economy doesn't occur on the slab unless you are laying on the tank because the drag is exponential with speed. Best economy occurs on the 55 mph state roads or 45 mph country roads.
-
Additionally have a very short screen (stock 08) all the way down and in the hottest weather you can stand..

That's why I don't worry about mpg much. :)
-
Your right about the wind drag. when I got 52mpg at 65 mph I was running my shortie windshield,no trunk and no bags.
-
And then the bad idea fairy hit me....
I know itd look beyond retarded, but im just curious how much side skirts to direct the wind around the saddlebags, and trunk would help. Just a small triangle attaching behind the knees, and to the canyon cages.
Not gunna do it cause itd look dumb, but still curious.
-
Oooo, dorky bike syndrome.

You would need to create a teardrop shape from front to back for the best aerodynamics. Kinda like a sperm going down the highway. LOL!

LOL!!! Well, I don't ride a silverdammit, so I'm good there. It just be a dark blue blob lol.
That said, I didn't think about the back pressure/turbulance. I don't think it would be too bad but at the same time, its becoming more and more common to see semi's/ big-rigs/ lorries, with skirts, and now back flaps to create the teardrop shape.
-
So much that has been said is correct. Lower drag, hotter weather, go slower, etc. so I present an aero example below that just gives the hypermiler in me a.... well, just you never mind but it does turn me on.

Do this and your Konnie will go longer between gas stops then your bladder can.

Do you have the back story on that BMW? Is that a young Vetter?
-
Looks like something out of Tron.

I'm thinking the headlight reflection would be an epic fail in the dark. :o

Dude, you wanna see someone bonkers about aerodynamics? Watch the movie 'Charge' and look for the dude who hasn't showered once in his life, has screwed up teeth, and doesn't wear shoes. Shows up within the first 10 minutes. (GREAT Documentary about the Isle of Man TT!)

Found the crazy Hippster Beemer here: http://www.bikeexif.com (http://www.bikeexif.com)
Fun site check it out. Also check out Cycle Exif if you're into push bikes.

Not into the Hippster Aero Beemer how about this...

When you reach my age you will find that practically ANY bike can go longer between gas stops than your bladder can, LOL!

My sig says it all. Mostly highway riding. Mostly very easy riding.
Info display is always much higher. I pretty much only use that display for tire pressures and outside temp.
I always judge fuel level by trip odometer.
Fuel gauge seems to be pretty worthless also. Stays full a while, then goes down to 1 bar pretty fast and stays at 1 bar with a lot of miles left in it still.
