Title: HID issue/question
Post by: PlaynInPeoria on January 07, 2014, 11:03:43 AM
Several of my friends have HID and have finally talked me it drinking that KoolAid, so I ordered them from DDM Tuning, same kit as they got.

I bought the exact same kit as them and my HIDs don't move directly back, they pivot. Mine aren't installed yet but a friend that is the local HID guru ended up with one of the 'pivot types' when he had a failure and got a new one, then noticed this.  He says the new pivot style do not work as well.

Anyone else that knows HID aware of this?

Thanks

No but interesting. Can you by any chance take a couple of photos- maybe one in each position?

I do not think a tipping lamp, which would move the light source up and down if I am understanding this correctly, would work as well as a fore / aft moving lamp. The original filaments in an H4 that the C-14 uses are located one in front of the other with a very small vertical difference and so a lamp that moves forward  / backward as the types I have always seen would better mimic the original lamp. That said, it would certainly be worth a try to see how the beam pattern acts with the new HID type.

There also used to be a butterfly type of lamp that had a split, movable shield under the arc tube; this shield opened out of the way to simulate the 'high beam' function. They really worked pretty poorly because again, it did not put the light source in the proper place to mimic the bulb (H4) the reflector housing was designed to work with.

New to me...I have also used the HID "forward and backward" types, and thought they worked pretty well.  AND I have used the "butterfly" type.  Those came out after about a week and were given away.

Pictures indeed...
