Title: Two brothers slip on with no fuel changes?
Post by: theAmazingKickstand on November 28, 2013, 10:01:53 AM
Hey all,

Sorry for starting yet another thread but how does everyone feel about putting on a Two Brothers slip on without changing the fueling.
I have it on my 08 with no Power Commander and was always concerned about the bike burning lean. It is however a much better looking unit than the stock exhaust.
Is it totally safe to use on my new 2013 or should I leave it off until I have a chance to adjust fueling accordingly? I'm even more concerned since the bike has a lean mode to save gas.

I think these bikes run to the rich side stock. If you change only the muffler you aren't changing the air flow enough to worry about fueling issues.

It is my understanding that it should be unnecessary to change the fuel maps due to just changing a muffler (it doesn't do that much to flow change).  Now, if you change the whole pipe and headers, it will require remapping.

I just got mine in the mail and don't plan on changing anything else.

I put a V&H CSOne Black on my 2010 and didn't change anything.  No problems at all.

I've been running my 09 w/ a 2Bro's carbon fiber for over 3 years without any tuning.  It pops/rumbles on decel a little... I like it.  8)

If you did not like it you could block off the reed valves yourself or buy pre made blockoff plates.

Mine backfires too...I don't mind it and like it but it's like an audible announcement that your bike is out of tune.
Is everyone in complete agreement that this has no effect on the actual burn?

I haven't had an issue with my Area P and using the stock paper filter or a K&N for that matter.  No backfiring at all with mine.  I don't have any fuel mods....yet.  Will probably get the Guhl reflash this spring, though.

Before or after you install the Canyons?  :)

This is a bullshit assumption that qualifies as an old wives tale.  Referencing my own observations for the past 55+ years of experience with cars, trucks and motorcycles I have always heard from the pundits that one should always re-jet the carburetor(s) or more recently re-map the fuel injection system to accommodate any alteration of the exhaust.  I have found this to be nearly an absolutely erroneous assumption.  About the only place where any change in the fuel mixture is possibly appropriate would be at maximum throttle while the engine is near or at maximum rpm's.  Below those two extremes it doesn't make a damn bit of difference.  While at these extremes, it usually doesn't matter either as one can only ride a modern motorcycle for a very short time with the throttle pinned to the stop.

Just install the new muffler and enjoy the ride and the improvement in appearance.  There is no plausible reason for concern about running lean, limit your concerns to a more appropriate apprehension such as the blind idiots that seem to be attempting to run over you.

It is not an announcement that the bike is out of tune.  All of the C14's do it due to the introduction of an excess of air introduced through the air switching valve when the throttle is closed.  Just plug the hose running from the airbox on the lower right side of the frame to the valve located on the valve cover and you'll hear no more backfiring.  I have done this on mine and have observed no change other than the lack of backfiring upon closing the throttle.  I also have a Two Brothers exhaust installed more than four years ago.

Max why do you keep posting lies about the exhaust mods???

YOU require remapping !

To get the very best out of the setup, possibly, but I'm with Bud and Max on not doing anything else to the setup.  I got the Area P for the sound, not  for any extra power it might possibly provide.

1) Nothing I have posted is is lie.  Sometimes there are some inaccuracies, but not in this case.
2) I said nothing about "exhaust mods", I specifically listed a muffler change and then pipe/headers.  The two are radically different.
3) Pretty much every other post in the thread corroborates what I said.
4) I probably COULD use some remapping.

Each and every one of us qualify for improvement or in modern parlance, re-mapping.
