Post by: tbanzer on June 08, 2011, 02:22:35 PM
I have the zx 14 exhaust on my c14 and now I would like to get some slip ons for it. Can ayone help me ID what year Exhaust I have, Is there a change in the Diameter of the tubing? I think its the early version because I dont remember and cats in the Head pipe.

If there are no cats in the header section, it's a 2007 or older.

The 2008 and newer has a larger diameter mid pipe, but I have a suspicion you could mix and match by picking the correct exhaust gasket (doughnut / sleeve / lead - header to mid-pipe connector gasket).

The 2010 C14, 2006/7 ZX14, and 2008 ZX14 exhaust gasket all have the same OD (header side), but different ID.  The 2010 C14 and 2008 and newer ZX14 have a larger ID (mid-pipe side), while the 2006/7 ZX14 have a smaller ID.

The various part numbers can be found online, at sites like www.ronayers.com. (http://www.ronayers.com.).

Pull off your pipes and look in the collector. It there's a cat, you'll see it. 8)

I was going to measure this for you this morning, but saw the bike as I walked out to the garage, and got side tracked (took off riding!).

I can measure this for you tonight, but if all you need to do is determine if yours is 2007 and older ZX, or 2008 and newer ZX, compare it to the stock C14 mid-pipe (if you have one).  The C14 is the same size as the 2008 and newer ZX14.

Or like jimmymac just posted while I was typing this, look for the Cat.  In the '07 and earlier, it was in the mufflers.  '08 and later, in the header.

Thanks I will compare it to the original c14 pipe.

I measured the 2010 C14 (which is the same as the 2008 & newer ZX14), and the OD of the header pipe (which goes inside the mid pipe and its gasket) or the ID of the mid pipe gasket is 2.135 inches in diameter.,

I couldn't get to the smaller 2007 & older pipe without unbolting it, and didn't feel like doing that.  I would estimate it's just under 2 inches in diameter though.

As I said before, the connecting gasket has the same OD (which slips into the mid pipe), just different ID between the two sizes of pipes.

Sorry to resurect an old thread, but it is the one bit of detail missing for people like me trying to work out the puzzle of the ZX14 06-07 header v's 08+

So just in case someone else was looking for the midpipe OD of a 2006-2007 ZX14 header pipe - I just threw the calipers on mine and it's near enough to call it an even 2".
