Title: Think I bought a 2012 C14!
Post by: seagiant on October 07, 2013, 09:21:58 PM
Hi,
Went to look at a used 2008 BMW K1200GT at a dealer 50 miles from my house and was totally turned off by the condition and zero documented maintanance on the bike! It had 75,000 miles and I walked away from it. Amazingly there is a Kawi dealer 5 miles from my house and I had also been looking at the C14 also but just could not afford new pricing.

I was bummed about the BMW and thought I would go to the Kawi dealer and see what he had used. Turns out there was a black 2012 on consignment with 1900 miles on it for $12,500. After talking to the manager we called the owner and I got it down to $12,100! It has 2 years left on the warrantee and I was able to buy 3 more years to add to it! Hopefully the financing will go through. I am putting $3000 down on it,will find out tomorrow! How did I do???

I'm in Fla. 8)  I did not think the C14 came in "slow"!

The black, grey, dark blue, and red ones are the slowest. The lime green one is 8mph faster on the centerstand, 9mph faster on the side stand. If it isn't (the green one), it should be.

You have no idea how lucky you were to walk away from the BMW. I had a K1200GT just before getting my C-14. The GT was hands down the biggest, most expensive piece of crap I've ever owned. And I've owned a LOT of bikes over the years. There are so many inherent design flaws which are NOT covered by BMW on that bike it's just crazy. Just go to I-BMW.com and look up the problems. The happiest 2 days of ownership for me was the day I bought it, and the day it went away!. You'll love the C-14!

Hi,
Thanks Jim! I did my research and went with info on the BMW K bike to check to see if the refits had been done to counter the most known problems(with 75,000 miles) and the previous owner had not even done the basic services to it!!! They wanted $10,000 for the bike but was then going to charge me $900 for the Valve check/service,that  it should of had already???

I wasn't going to buy a bike and then have to do a major service before I even rode it! The C14 may not have been a steal but for my area was a bargain and I was able to have more warranty added and finance!

Hope the deal goes through for you. It is an absolutely awesome bike.

Hi,
Thanks! The financing went through and I've got a bike!!! Pics later!

Congrats! BTW: the K1200 is a very nice and comfy bike but can't hold a candle to the C14 for performance. Not even close. You made the right decision.

Hi,
Thanks fellas!!! WHOA! This bike is so much fun! Just rode back from the Dealer and this bike is light years from what I have ridden! My last bike was a Suzuki GSX1100G (shaft drive) and this bike is in another star system all together! To be honest was afraid it might be to much but I can see when I get used to it it will be perfect with the power I was missing on the 1100!

First mod will probably be a slip on. Any ideas! Here's some pics!

Ya, get rid of that potato launcher.  ;D

If your asking which slip-on to buy, it is more of a personal preference and how much your willing to spend. I really liked my AreaP slip-on before I went with the full dual Muzzy set-up. If you have the money you should go with the full AreaP set up unless you are like some of us and like the looks of dual exhaust, then go with the full Muzzy system.

EDIT:
She looks bone stock, you have a lot of farkling ahead of you. Poke around the forum and see what you like on other bikes, then open your wallet and eagerly await the UPS truck every week. :chugbeer:

Hi Gumby,
It is bone stock!!! Like a brand new one except its got 1900 miles on it! The only thing I can figure is the first owner was scared of it and didn't ride it much???

Can anyone tell me why the red warning light blinks when it is off and the key fob in the ignition switch turned to lock??? Do I need to take the key fob out of the ignition switch???

I've had mine less than a Month. Power is pretty close my my Buell 1125R, seat of the pants wise, but way more comfy.
Mine is BLACK also.         Very STEALTHY
Anyways MODS thus far for me are: COX radiator guard, Black. (This mod is great for covering up that big ass silver radiator in the middle, protecting it as well.)
Sargent seat, 1" lower. Cal-Sci tinted shorty screen.  And Stomp grips.
In two week my Canyon Cages will be in, so I will post pics of mine after I install those.

Sticking with my "Potato Shooter" because I'm Deaf. So no pipe mod is gonna make a difference for me sound-wise.
Power is plentiful as well. My racing days are over and this girl is just fine as she is..............

Enjoy your ride!  :chugbeer:

That's just your security light. Keep the FOB away from the bike when parking it for the day. That blinking light will "time-out"..
The key is not the FOB, it's just a key.....
Read your owners manual. Lots of questions get answered there...............

Hi Mark,
I'll look into your mods! I'll be honest the bike is going to have to run as is for a little while as I was just able to swing it and will probably sale some things I'm not using to ease the pain!

I think I found out why the red warning light is blinking,it does that to show it is locked up and can't be started??? This is all new to me,I will have to read the owners manual. Already ordered the Service Manual!

Oh yea as an aside I am 6'8" tall and this is really the first bike that feels like it fits me! You just have to be there I guess!

  Hi RCRBoy,
                      Thanks,I'll read it tonite!

Lucky you............  :(

I'm 5'6" so I had no option on the seat. Both the seat and screen are 1" lower so everything came out proportionally for me.

Read the Manual to get familiar with the features and RIDE it!

Everyone has different "wants, needs and tastes", so add what ever "Farkles"that make you happy.

Enjoy

Hi RCr,
Will do! Sounds like you are on the other end of the stick! Glad you could get the C14 to work for you! The Connie actually has more leg room for me than the BMW K bike as I check by sitting on the bike with my crotch against the tank! Thats where you end up when you hit the binders anyway!

I'm more a day rider than long trips,Florida is fixing to be REAL nice for riding!

First thing- remove the dangerous, P.O.S. Bridgestone 021's and get some PR2 or PR3 Michelins  immediately. Then peel off the ugly fuel info sticker on that beautiful black tank. Ride, get fuel, smile, repeat, not necessarily in that order, for many thousands of miles.

- yeah. Do yourself a favour and throw away the stock B'stone rubber and get a pair of Pirelli Angel ST , GT or the Michelin PR3s , etc.

- the bike will be absolutely transformed.

Hi,
Thanks Gentlemen, I did some research on the tires and it seems that with the 2008/9 tires there was a lot of complaints so Kawasaki got Bridgestone to redo the 021 for 2010 and it is now a better tire with more rubber added and a better profile???? This is just something I saw and maybe the reason there are different opinions on this? Having no real world experience with Bridgestones yet I can't say! I always liked Metzlers on my Suzuki 1100!

For myself right now I'm going to have to keep stock for $$$ reasons!

I'm at 6000 miles on my stock 'Stones.  I can only hope to get another month out of them.  I know many riders choose to remove the 021's earlier to put on better tires.  Not in my budget after paying cash for my new 2012 back in June, to swap tires that are still ok to ride.  That being said next year will be great on new PR3's (I think).

Hi Joe,
My thoughts exactly! I am lucky just to have gotten the bike and need a little time to recoop! The PR2 AND PR3's seem to be the go to tire fore this bike! What I might do now is get one of the LED tail light kits that flash as we have 80+ year olds here in Fla. driving Cadillacs and wearing those goggle type sunglasses that you could arc weld with! I'm more scared stopped at a red light than doing a 100 MPH on the bike! :o

I spend at least half my time at stop signs and red lights looking behind me. Good practice with today's texters looking down instead of ahead.

Hi Zarticus,
No, not to far! I went riding to day over to Clermont. Like where you are at there are some nice 2 lane roads and very light traffic. This bike keeps getting better and better for me. The power is strong but managable and very smooth. I'm still getting used to the gearbox for some reason. Seems very different from my last bike! No problems and works better for me as I get used to the bike!

Got my new can coming and got thru to Hyperlites and ordered my brake light add on! Should be able to put those on next week. I see using this bike for a long time as it is probably the first bike in my life that actually fits me! Heres a pic of the last bike I had a Suzuki GSXR1100G not a wimp by any means but not a C14 either!

Hi,
Well went out again today on some 2 lane backroads. Had an 18 wheeler in front of me just cruising in 5th gear about 60 mph behind it. Came to a straight away, clear and I just rolled the throttle staying in 5th. When I was halfway to over taking looked down at the speedometer and was doing 90! ::)

The power is so smooth you don't realize how fast you are going sometimes. Biketoberfest is on the 17th I think might have to run over to the Kawi Dealer in Daytona and see whats going on?

I am hard on tires, but I got ok mileage and traction out of the BT-021's on my 2012.  The Angel GT's are definitely a better tire, but not good enough to just throw away perfectly good rubber.

I got my 2012 new in February and have 11,600 on it. Love the bike.  Waiting on another front tire, I wish it would hurry because it's gonna get too cold to ride around here soon.  I hate the idea of parking this wonderful motorcycle.  ECU reflash and HID over the winter though, so at least I have something to look forward to.  You will love it. Try this. In the same passing situation, drop to 3rd and pin it. It might just get your attention. Did I mention I'm hard on tires?

Yep, that is the way a bike should be- quiet, powerful, smooth, efficient.  That is why I like the Concours.

Lets see at 60MPH "drop into third and pin it!" yea gotcha! Actually I now drop to fourth and pin it and it gets my attention! Just an awsome machine and at 6'8" and 275 lbs, I LOVE the power and how it moves my big a$$! Going to Daytona's Biktoberfest in the morning!

  Got my can on!
