Title: Test ride finally
Post by: Torn on September 24, 2013, 09:05:08 PM
Went to dealer I plan to buy from today and took a nice long test ride of a blue 2013(getting black)..couldn't finish the deal because sales manager doesn't like to take in trades this close to the end of riding season here....so I will either sell or wait till end of feb. to join the concours club. I did like the ride...this bad boy is sneaky to 80+...you gas it in 4th or 5th and boom you are cruising past 80 like nothing...that I enjoyed. My 109r2 is awesome to 70-75 but the connie out shines it without a doubt beyond that point...two things after riding today though....Windshield..I will need another one for sure...right now I am leaning towards the cal sci XL...and I was curious how it has worked for guys 6'4+ and I would love to have a real world picture of it on the motorcycle from the side....  Second thing...this motorcycle is QUIET...I couldn't hear it running over the wind in my helmet....guess coming from a two Vtwins one with obnoxious pipes and the second with pretty tame compared to most...which is what I want, but the stock pipe is just too quiet for me...I am leaning towards two brothers...but open to any thoughts on that also. Yes I know..I don't have it yet...but it is a done deal.  Im the type of guy what wants all my upgrades sitting in the garage before I bring the motorcycle home to make it truly mine when I pull it back out to ride.  I know I could find a dealer that would make the deal now, but it is the end of the riding season and Ive dealt with these guys for about 7 years and their service is second to none....so I will wait until feb...and besides I'm not selling my 109 because I don't like it or im tired of it...the connie is just better for the type of riding I like to do...and to be honest I have always liked the look since they came out with the Connie 14. Thanks in advance for input and windshield PICs..this forum has already helped a bunch in my research...if anyone has any of taller screens I would love to see them...function is good..but I am a vtwin show off....so lines and looks are also important to me  8)

Welcome to the site Torn! You will love the C14.

I just got back from riding with some 9's (10 1/2 hours worth) and the Connie handled it perfectly. I was always totally spent after a riding day like that fighting the wind on the 9, but with the adjustable windshield, and very comfortable riding position, I feel great still, could go out and do more riding (if it wasn't dark out, lol)

Welcome!!  As you just discovered, you're gonna love it.  I use the Cal Sci XL in the cool winter months.  Alas, the shorty is still on it or I would go snap a pic for ya.

Welcome!  Hope you end up part of the club, you will love it, of course.

Sorry, but I simply don't understand why anyone would want to take something designed to be fast, smooth, efficient, and quiet (they all go together well) and make it loud.  It would be nice if it were THAT quiet as you describe, but it is not.... if you can't hear the bike at all during moderate acceleration over wind noise then you need a better helmet or something!  Perhaps you don't even have a "real" helmet??

of course I heard it accelerating...just seemed really quiet cruising at 55-60...or it could have been the wind from playing with the windshield...I am coming from a 10 years of riding two vtwins, so Im sure that is part of it.....Wind noise or quiet engine is far from being a deal breaker...saw some youtube vids of two brothers exhaust that sounded more like what I would like to have....nice with acceleration and a decent but soft while cruising....Im not a music guy when riding...the motorcycle running is my music.  Did a 5000 mile round trip on my 109 to grand canyon and never once turned on music through my blue tooth....just enjoyed the ride and sounds of motorcycle. Looking forward to more trips like that on this machine.

- FYI , i have a remus on my C14.

- and you'll only "hear" the engine when its wound it up , which is (imho) the way a good slip-on should be on a tourer.

I'm lovin' my Vance & Hines CS-1 pipe after 2 years- just enough beautiful noise when it rips, and quiet cruising at 80. It also looks more like original equipment than most of those straight can types, and a lot less expensive than the Leo Vince.

Welcome Torn. I'd have to wonder about a motorcycle dealer who doesn't really want to sell a motorcycle.

Welcome Torn.

If you think that the C14 is fast to 80mph, just wait till you do a WOT run above 6k rpm.    ;D

I have the Area P slip-on and love it. Almost as quiet as the stock cannon but, when you get on it, man that's some beautiful music!

+1 love my Remus, and it doesn't start the symphony untill you open up. And it sounds great  :D

I got a great deal on a used Leo Vince slip on. With the silencer in it is almost as quiet as stock but sounds much better when you open it up. 30 seconds to remove the silencer and it becomes much louder without being obnoxious.

Also love my Cee Bailys Ultra dome tour. All the way down and I can easily see over it. All the way up and great protection in heavy rain. And everything in between.
