Title: Calsci windshield review
Post by: russell420 on June 24, 2013, 07:00:22 PM
I just ordered & installed a Calsci large windshield for my new 2012 C14 after having used the stock one for nearly 900 miles, both one and two up.  I'm 6 ft tall with a 32 inch inseam.  I had no idea how bad the stock shield was until I rode with the Calsci.  The difference is amazing.  The stock shield was extremely loud when all the way down (much louder than being in clean air), but flowed decent air on hot days.  Raised up to where it was quieter, the stock shield buffeted my head badly, nearly blurring my vision, and there was a lot of back pressure.  The Calsci is much quieter all the way down, yet still flows air to just below my neck.  It will definitely be hotter this summer, but the trade off otherwise is worth it.  Raised all the way up, the Calsci created a completely quiet cockpit with no back pressure, & I was still looking over it.  The wife noticed the improvement immediately, as the stock shield buffeted her badly.  At max height, she said the cockpit was almost totally quiet for her too.  We both agreed this was an excellent purchase.

Yeah I love mine as well. The back pressure of the stock screen was horrible as was the buffeting. The CalSci is much better. I bought mine in 2010 and it has never been off the bike.

Interestingly, I get the tons of back-pressure from the stock shield when it is all the way up, but never any buffeting.  Still need a shorter shield for the hot hot summer.... some day...

The buffeting would hit my helmet knocking my head around. It made long trips very uncomfortable and fatiguing. That is gone with the CalSci.

The stock screen had my head rocking about like a nodding donkey  :o

The Calsci Large I fitted transformed the bike  8)

I tried out the Cal Sci medium awhile back on my 2011 and thought it a huge improvement. I just need to take the time to order one.

The stock shield is much louder than clean air and I too get buffeting and back pressure as it is raised. The other thing that I notice on early morning rides with the stock shield is that my helmet shield gets covered in gnats, etc. very quickly. Seems the stock shield directs them right onto my helmet. (I'm 6'-0" and a 34" inseam riding on a Corbin.)

When I finally get the Cal Sci, I think I'll cut my stock shield down about 4-5" for summer use. That flip at the top is a terrible idea.

Don't forget to report on your cut down screen if you go ahead with it  ;)
