Title: Ticking noise at @3500 RPM
Post by: daisy44 on June 22, 2013, 06:52:54 PM
This is my first post. But have read hundreds of your post.I own a blk 09 with 21,000 miles.Only major mod is the ZX14 dual exhust. That was done 6,000 miles ago.My connie has been fun and i love it.However i am now hearing a ticking noise coming from what sounds like the top right side of the motor.I had Mobile 1 syn oil in her when i first heard it and was doing it at idle and @2000-3500 RPM.Did a oil change and went back to amsoil with oem filter and now ticking noise is only happining at 3500-4000 RPM. At idle she is whisper quiet. Have any of you had this noise?I had one mechanic say it might be the EGR vavlve. But he dismissed it after the noise went away at oil change and idle. let me hear you guys...

You picked up a clock?  Could be a valve..  Do we have an EGR valve?  Someone put a car engine in the bike?  Don't see any evidence of one in the 08 service manual.  And was this so called mechanic familiar with MCs?

I'm still betting it's exhaust noise, I'd check the copper crush washers.

I put brand new copper crush washers, and no ticking noise for @5000 miles.I had also put on those fuji lock nuts.  Sir jim i called it a EGR vavle by mistake, however it operates as a car.Its proper name is REED VALVE ASSEMBLY oem part #12021.My mechanic has relaced many on the cbr1000's.And it sounded the same to him,but why it went away at idle is why  he said cant be that.Yes i am thinking the valves, but dont they tighten up? hence noise would be if they loosned up? And then again why only now at that RPM? Thank you for the reply's!
