It was not uncommon for this type of rim to come apart. I was at the repair shop today and they had one come apart while inflating it after a repair. Luckily, they were using the safety cage.

Post by: basmntdweller on June 18, 2013, 08:28:43 AM: Had that happen many years ago headed to FL. A buddy and I were in his international scout on the north side of Atlanta. One of the wheels came off, bounced once and hit the hood and windshield directly in front of me. It bounced off of us and hit another car behind us. We were able to continue after removing what was left of the windshield and cleaning up all the glass. Scared the ***** out of both of us!

Quite a few Russians from the amount of car mayhem videos I've seen.
