wow, thats like the piece of recap I mentioned hit my bike, back when I thought drifting trucks on i-95 and saving gas may be a great thing =)
-
That is actually a fully inflated tire. It's an old style split rim, not as many in use anymore, for obvious reasons. It was not uncommon for this type of rim to come apart. I was at the repair shop today and they had one come apart while inflating it after a repair. Luckily, they were using the safety cage.

Had that happen many years ago headed to FL. A buddy and I were in his international scout on the north side of Atlanta. One of the wheels came off, bounced once and hit the hood and windshield directly in front of me. It bounced off of us and hit another car behind us. We were able to continue after removing what was left of the windshield and cleaning up all the glass. Scared the ***** out of both of us!

:yikes: Great reaction time! Not sure if I would have reacted as fast. It's why I leave a lot of room between me and anything in front at speed.

I ran over a truck tire tread with my Tahoe on I-20 a couple of years ago. It flipped up and took out the windshield of a Suburban that was following too close.

Quite a few Russians from the amount of car mayhem videos I've seen.

Yep. It's standard practice in Russia. My friend Irina, says the traffic laws there can result in a criminal case after an accident, if You can't prove it's not Your fault.
