Title: PR2's
Post by: paulthibodeaux on June 04, 2011, 08:29:11 AM
Got back from a 2000 mile trip and need some tires. The PR2's only lasted 6000 miles.
I would like something that gets better mileage.
Are the PR3's any better. How  about the 023's.

I can't say if the PR3's will wear better than the PR2's or not. But IMO, they are a much better tire than the PR2!  ;)

My Angels will be here next week, so I will report my feelings on them soon enough.

I have a pr2 front on now and have a 023 rear in the garage waiting. You cant beat the price. I paid $134 shipped for the rear 23 and saw the fronts for $95.

Paul,
What part of the country are you in?  I have just over 8K on my PR2 rear tire
and it looks like there may be 2K left in it.  Our roads here in AZ are horrible for
tire wear and the heat does not help. Not sure yet if my next tires will be PR2,
PR3 or BB-023 GT's.

PR2's went over 11K for me.  I have angels on now with 5.5K and they are doing well.  The rear is squared off some but there is almost no cupping on the front.  Even the PR2's cupped in the front.  I'm guessing the Angels will make it to 7K.

PR2's were doing good till my trip. After2400 miles on highways, there is an inch and a half flat spot in the middle, with thread almost showing. The front is almost as bad. I'll probably go with the PR3's.

I currently have 7000 on a Shinko front which I paid $65 for. It handles twisties as good as anything else I have tried BT021, PR2, Road Smart.  It seems to be wearing very evenly. The center tread has 2.5 mm depth left. It doers have a single straight groove right down the middle so it does give that squiggly feeling on bridge gratings. But it's just a feeling, not a hazard. I am going to keep it on for my trip to Tennessee the end of the month. I still have not found a rear tire that will last long enough for me, the Shinko went less than 5000 IIRC. I have a PR2 on now only because they were discounting then 30 bucks.
