Title: Rotors under warrenty
Post by: krsron on May 28, 2013, 10:38:53 PM
Dropped off bike today for the rear brake recall, and asked service writer to check with Kawasaki if my front rotors would be under warranty for pulsating.  Bike has 9000 miles on it and has felt like the rotors have been warped since 6000.  Anyone have luck getting them covered under warranty.

Depends on the dealer but they should be covered.  We've had others that had them replaced under warranty.

I took mine in and dropped it off, they said they couldn't tell because the tires were so bad (they were).  So I bought tires off the web and had them mounted there and paid $140 for that ($80 an hour for labor, I couldn't do it in that time yanking wheels off the bike, mounting tires, balancing them and remounting them and taking a test ride).  Then they said the brakes were fine. I asked for the results of the runout test (.3 mm is out of spec, per the service manual) and they said "they're fine, but we didn't write down the numbers."  <Sigh>. And they left the pinch bolts loose on the right fork tube.  Lovely.

I did have the general manager ride it, he said "It's fine". I asked if he felt the pulsing.  He said "Yes, but mine does that too". So he's not smart enough to know his are warped too?

When you take them in, make sure you get a NUMBER of what they run out to.  .15 mm is nomimal,, out of spec is .3 mm.  Of course, they could give you a number of .00000001 and never take the wheels off the bike.  I would ask them up front how they test it and get them to record the runout.

I've had 3 bikes with rotors changed out on warranty.
2008 at 15,000 miles.
2010 at 38,000 miles.
2011 at 5,000 miles.
The 2010 was a fight and they quoted me $1000 before fighting for warranty coverage.

And that's a big part of the issue....the dealer fighting for you.  Some do, some don't, and some don't have a clue.  I like the bike but their dealer network sucks big time.

True that, had 2 sets replaced by the dealer, and replaced the last set myself after they went bad after just 4000km's with EBC's. Haven't looked back!  ;D
